Dansty
Site URL: https://www.birthdaysdocumentary.com/gallery Hi everyone! I am trying to improve my SEO, so in order to put the best keywords on my gallery images, I wouldn't want them to show. So, I disabled the "show title and description" for every single image. Would that still help search engines discover my images? Or, does it have to SHOW the description and title so as to get picked up by search engines? I'd love to hear from you based on your experience! Link to comment
dansullivan
Hi Dansty, Strictly speaking, the SEO of the images is controlled by the alt tag. The alt, short for alternate, serves double duty as a label of what the image is for blind web users. Google can read this also, and naming them can help with SEO, in the form of an explicit and direct label. So on your site you might have an alt tag that says "pregnant woman" or "delivery room". It's an art to name images in a way that's accurate and helpful to SEO. If in doubt, just be descriptive. On this page: https://www.birthdaysdocumentary.com/in-the-press This image: <img src="https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5b960bed8f5130ecebb2307d/1590312961755-L2OYU00D5QXOG0O55FG8/ke17ZwdGBToddI8pDm48kOhIOoIfS9G9nyo9ekEzoMd7gQa3H78H3Y0txjaiv_0fDoOvxcdMmMKkDsyUqMSsMWxHk725yiiHCCLfrh8O1z5QHyNOqBUUEtDDsRWrJLTmJdLpeZW_ttQnjXwTxihzWGa5T8XwmsotC9ysh11nrf2FZLgt0nRZWopU8MrPKUKt/056_BJOM_02.jpg" alt="British Journal of Midwifery, May 2020" /> Shows an alt of "British Journal of Midwifery, May 2020" This is accurate. I might use: "Birth Documentary Review by the British Journal of Midwifery, May 2020" -- That's just to illustrate a perspective; I'm not saying that's the ideal KW target, but it's still very accurate and now covers KWs that matter to your traffic more. IMO doing SEO since about 2007, image tags are worth doing.. IF you've nailed everything else first and done a good job! From a few minutes on your site, speed issues out prioritize image tagging!
