creating multiple country formats for phone numbers

I created a form for new client intake but the phone format does not allow my UK people to complete the phone number box.

I see that there's a way for me to have them enter the country code but because the format of their phone numbers are different than in the USA they can't complete it.

USA = 123.456.7890

UK = 12345.678.901

While at the moment, the phone number fields in a form will always be formatted for US telephone numbers, you may want to use a Text field instead to collect that info. 

This has been an issue for years and should be very easy to change—not to mention a priority for Squarespace. It's a hindrance for me, as well. Why hasn't this changed, Squarespace?
