DNS update - host can't support '@' wildcard DNS

Recommended Posts

We're trying to update the DNS record for our domain. The instructions say to add a CNAME, and two TXT records.

One of the TXT records is denied, and that's because it requires a wildcard in the host (@); which our hosting provider (Dreamhost) can't accept. Is there a workaround to this? Currently we have the denied TXT record added, but the host is left blank, since '@' can't be accepted.

Thank you

"@" is not a wildcard, it means "this domain" (sometimes referred to as the root of your domain).  That is, if your domain name is "example.com", the "@" symbol is translated into "example.com" by the domain name server.

"*" (asterisk) is the wildcard symbol in the domain name system.
