How do you add a block of color behind an image block and make them slightly overlap? (Brine Template)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I've been trying to add a block of color behind an image block using CSS (screenshot attached). The closest I could find was in this thread, and this was helpful, but I need help on 2 other things:

  • If you compare my screenshot example to the example in the thread, I need help being able to move the block of color's position, so that its overlap edges only show on 2 sides (left & bottom, like in the screenshot) instead of 3 sides (like in the thread). I tried tinkering with the CSS using negative values for padding or margins, but it didn't work.
  • I also tried adding a border to the block of color, but it puts a border around the whole area of the block, instead of just the part where the color's shaded in within the block.

Could anyone help me? I'd really appreciate some CSS code that could be applied to any block as long as I use a specific block-ID (as opposed to CSS that applies to general image block types).

For reference, the screenshot I've attached is from the header index of this site.

Would really love some help on this! Let me know if you need any more clarifications or references.

Thanks for reading!
