How do I make home page a gallery of product categories?

Hi

I am trying to recreate a website for my mum on Squarespace.

Her home page (www.barbaraehlers.co.uk) has a list of categories, each with a photo, that you click on to look at the products in that category. I cannot seem to find a way to do this easily. Is there a way?

If not, I am also trying a workaround by creating the images on the first page, them linking the images to a page with the products in that category listed. Thing is, I cannot seem to make a page with more than 3 blocks across and I cannot for the life of me work out how to make 2 or 2 more columns worth of blocks. Can anyone tell me how?

If you build on 7.0 (I suggest you look at the Brine Family) you can do what you want with a page of summary blocks, the blocks  pull and make thumbnails with text excerpts from galleries, shop pages, and blog posts. 7.1 only pulls from blogs.
