How do I remove the .squarespace from my URL address?

Every Squarespace site comes with a built-in domain (also known as a Squarespace URL) that looks like this:

yoursiteid.squarespace.com

You'll always see your built-in domain in your browser address bar when you're logged in.

When you register, transfer, or connect a custom domain to your site, visitors will see that custom domain in their browser address bars instead of your built-in domain. If you don’t already have a custom domain, you can register one through Squarespace.

@paul2009 , I have connected my own domain. Squarespace shows that I have a different domain and using that domain takes me to my built-in domain, but it still shows the built-in.  how long does it take for the change to happen?  Is there a place I can look in SS to see that I did indeed connect my domain?

Your browser cache will do that, redirect to your internal/config domain. View your site with an incognito page or from a different browser. I have two bookmarks on my browser bar, one with internal domain and one external. I always click that to view my site as a visitor or it reverts when I type it in the address bar.

To be sure your domain is working correctly post it here and we can check it.

Thanks for replying. I have tried on incognito but it still shows the *.squarespace.com, also other people tried to visit the primary and they see the squarespace url.
You could try and visit: https://dmrdart.com/

. The transfer has completed and the "Whosit" sites all show your domain hosted by Squarespace. I suggest you check your domain settings again and make sure the primary domain is set correctly. For those who don't know here are the instructions:

Set the primary domain

  1. In the Home menu, click Settings, then click Domains.
  2. Click the domain you want to set as your primary domain.
  3. In the Actions section, click Set as primary domain.
  4. In the pop-up message, click Set.
  5. A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the Domain overview panel, and your new primary domain displays a Primary label in the Domains panel.

I have contacted the support center, and apparently the way is to add the Default DNS settings which I was missing. At the moment I need to wait max 72h for the change to take place.
