How do I remove the .squarespace from my URL address?

HI,

I'm new to squarespace so I'm still trying to get to grips with it.

At the moment my URL address reads mydomain.squarespace.com but can you please tell me how to remove the .squarespace?

Will it automatically disappear when I go 'live'?

Thanks.

Every Squarespace site comes with a built-in domain (also known as a Squarespace URL) that looks like this:

yoursiteid.squarespace.com

You'll always see your built-in domain in your browser address bar when you're logged in.

When you register, transfer, or connect a custom domain to your site, visitors will see that custom domain in their browser address bars instead of your built-in domain. If you don’t already have a custom domain, you can register one through Squarespace.

@paul2009 , I have connected my own domain. Squarespace shows that I have a different domain and using that domain takes me to my built-in domain, but it still shows the built-in.  how long does it take for the change to happen?  Is there a place I can look in SS to see that I did indeed connect my domain?

Hello all, unfortunately I face the same issue.

- I have tranferred my custom domain

- I made it as primary

- at the moment when people click on the primary domain, it just redirects to the *.squarespace.com

How can I solve this?

Your browser cache will do that, redirect to your internal/config domain. View your site with an incognito page or from a different browser. I have two bookmarks on my browser bar, one with internal domain and one external. I always click that to view my site as a visitor or it reverts when I type it in the address bar.

To be sure your domain is working correctly post it here and we can check it.

Thanks for replying. I have tried on incognito but it still shows the *.squarespace.com, also other people tried to visit the primary and they see the squarespace url.
You could try and visit: https://dmrdart.com/

. The transfer has completed and the "Whosit" sites all show your domain hosted by Squarespace. I suggest you check your domain settings again and make sure the primary domain is set correctly. For those who don't know here are the instructions:

Set the primary domain

  1. In the Home menu, click Settings, then click Domains.
  2. Click the domain you want to set as your primary domain.
  3. In the Actions section, click Set as primary domain.
  4. In the pop-up message, click Set.
  5. A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the Domain overview panel, and your new primary domain displays a Primary label in the Domains panel.

I have contacted the support center, and apparently the way is to add the Default DNS settings which I was missing. At the moment I need to wait max 72h for the change to take place.

Hi everybody,

I just switched to the yearly plan and got a domain for free (the same one I have ."squarespace" with) and I'd like to switch the URL. I have a doubt: will people that have been given the old www.*mywebsite*.squarespace.com be redirected on www.*mywebsite*.com or I'll lose all the backinks? SEO wise can be a damage of any kind?

Thank you

In the website's Domains panel, set the new domain to be your Primary Domain. No other action is necessary. all links to mywebsite.squarespace.com will reach mywebsite.com automatically.

I'm having a similar issue. My domain is connected and primary

What is the domain name you have added? Please provide a screenshot of the Domains panel showing it.

I'm having the same issue. I connected my domain from google workspace that I already owned. It's set as my primary domain but when I type in my company website on it's own, the website I created doesn't come up. It just says we're under construction, but when I type in my company website.squarespace.com (my built in domain) the website I created comes up. Someone please help me. I can't change my built in domain, someone said it was because I had an acuity scheduling trial ongoing and that would make me not allowed to change my custom domain but idk.
