Add volume control to 'minimal' audio block

Is there a way to display an volume control on the 'minimal' audio block? 

Alternatively, is it possible to tweak the CSS on  'classic' audio blocks so that pressing play doesn't hide the author & title?

Looks like the audio block gets its layout & function direction from "data-design-style="legacy"" (or "minimal") instead of having different classes for the variations, which unfortunately is nearly useless as a web search term. 

I'm using the Avenue theme, in case that's relevant here.
