Bancontact availability

Hi there,

I'm having the issue that I have connected to stripe for payment acceptance. Stripe accepts bancontact, but squarespace doesn't support bancontact. That's quite annoying as I did a whole website setup (over 120 products) and now I'm having this totally unexpected issue. Can this be added to the accepted payment methods?

I am in the same situation.. I have to admit that is it really annoying, Squarespace isn't made at all for Europe. There is a bunch of features missing for non-american websites!

Guess we have to switch on Shopify or Woocommerce...

Same issue here... Strip does support Bancontact and QR code transactions but Squarespace won't allow it.

Most VIsa and Mastercard card are credit cards in Belgium and customers are reluctant to use it.... 😕 I guess Shopify is the only solution.. It's weird that Stripe supports a payment method and Squarespace won't...

I am in the same situation as well.. seams Squarespace isn't made at all with Europe in mind!!!!😤

Apparently WIX is ahead of Squarespace and accepts Bancontact payments. 

Same issue. I'm really giving up on Squarespace

I have been asking for the Bancontact option for 6 months. But always the same answer: "We will send the information to our development team." If they don't need our European customers, we will go to Shopify. Only option.

I've been advocating for better integration with european payment methods for several years (here's a post I wrote 3 years ago!) but this isn't something Squarespace has been able to prioritise.

As I mentioned above, if you need Bancontact in the near future, you'll be better considering an alternative solution, such as Shopify (instead of Squarespace) or Shopify buttons on Squarespace.

Hi,

I have an existing stripe account where there are several payment methods activated, such as visa, credit card, bancontact, ideal...
When I activate this stripe account through the shop, it only shows the payment method: visa, credit card.
Is there a possibility to use a plug-in to show the other payment methods (bancontact, ideal)?

Apart from PayPal, Squarespace only supports Stripe for bank card payments, Apple Pay and AfterPay/ClearPay. You cannot take other types of payment via Stripe using the Squarespace checkout. This cannot be changed using third party plugins or code.

That is very unfortunate.

In Belgium, bancontact is still a payment method that is used a lot on webshops so I was wondering how to add that to my site. 

Have a Stripe account, like and use Squarespace for a decade, sold numerous accounts for them, circle member and the whole blablabla.
Built a whole website, products, custom mails etc.  in the most elaborate commerce plan to find out Squarespace limits the Stripe possibilities.  No bancontact, that is actually ridiculous in 2024. 
Creditcards, are something typical American, most people who spend in Europe have the money the spend and use debit cards.

This is an incredible anoying problem that Squarespace apparently refuses to address for years.
So be it, cancel all plans, throw 500 USD in the waste bin, start the work again.
It really feels like the company says F*CK you to their clients outside of the USA.

I can not believe this.
What a waste of time and money.
