Only require checkout form on certain products

Hey Squarespace community.

I run a website for a summer basketball camp. We take registrations from parents and need their kid's info etc. for the camp. I have utilized the checkout form as an easy way to collect the data we need.

This year we have offered parents the option to make a partial down payment for their kids to attend, and the balance is due the first day of the camp. I would like to be able to accept the remainder of their balance through our site, however I don't want or need them to fill out my checkout form. Is there a way I can turn it off for this one "product" but require it for others? I don't want to create the form for each product if I don't have to.

In summary, no.

There's no perfect answer for this scenario, but some options that you might want to consider include:

  • requesting registration information in a Custom Product Form instead. This generally works better if you enable Express Checkout (and hide the quantity field) so that customers can only purchase one camp in each transaction.
  • requesting registration information via the order confirmation page or the order confirmation email instead. The downside is that customers may not complete this without further prompting, as there's nothing you can do to make this mandatory.
  • adding a third-party payment solution for the final payments. These payments would then bypass Squarespace's checkout (and your custom form) and just capture payments. Of course there are downsides with this: there's an additional cost to run this, and payments will be logged on two different systems, requiring manual reconciliation.

Others may want to offer additional ideas.
