Creating a directory

Hi,

I'm looking to create a directory for my site for activities on in the area. I am aware that Squarespace doesn't have any options for creating directories but I have been told that I can just create links on a page and a search bar, but I really wanted to make something more sophisticated than this. Perhaps there is a way of creating one through code or any plug in ideas? I know there's community box which is great, but I don't really want to have to pay for extras unless it's a one off payment.

Any  luck finding a solution? I'm looking for the same. 

Squarespace has a built in events calendar, would that work for you? You could combine this on a page with images that link to event sites if you wanted to. Take a look at the info page about the calendar block.

Any luck finding a solution? We are looking for a simple searchable directory as well but can't add more to the budget for monthly add ons like community box.
