paulis
Site URL: http://bernardwaber.com/index.html Hi, I'm wondering if any experienced users would be willing to check my site, http://bernardwaber.com/index.html and suggest a good template. I am familiar with building a squarespace site and have been advised to work in 7.1. Does that make sense? I understand all templates are in the brine family. Carmine was suggested to me but I'm really not sure and not clear how to restyle if it doesn't work out. I'll be doing some reading there to get a feel. But if anyone has any ideas on a site that lends itself to the style of my current one I'd be grateful. I plan to use an image header for the pages rather than text. I'd like the home page to have an option for images and text that I can update with news, such as book reissues etc. I also would like a gallery page. Unfortunately, as I understand it, there aren't currently caption options for galleries. Image blocks don't appeal to me so I'll probably stick with what the designer of my last site did and build the caption in, like so http://bernardwaber.com/art.html. Unless anyone has a better idea. I'm very interested in other options. Thanks for any advice! Link to comment
derricksrandomviews
After looking at your site, which has a classic feel to it, but could use a bit of modernizing I suggest you look at the 7.0 Avenue template. It is very adaptable to fit many styles. I use it for my personal website as well as for some of my customers. 7.0 has many template families including the Brine family, Avenue is a one of a kind template. 7.1 is one family of templates. https://www.myrandomviews.com/ You can see a 7.0 templates here: https://www.squarespace.com/templates?onboarding_v7_1_0819=control&_ga=2.52304937.1696779908.1582820338-1627552492.1581780227 Link to comment
paulis
Hi Derrick, Thank you! I've been working with support and they keep pushing me to 7.1 as does a consultant I plan to use in the future. I'm still struggling to find the right template there. Maybe I am a bit more used to 7.0. If I go to 7.0 I'll definitely take your advice on the brine family. thank you! Link to comment
derricksrandomviews
Depending on the the type of site, Brine's Parallax scrolling is very attractive, it does not show up on mobile view, but still worth using. 7.1 does not have that feature as of now. Just be aware that unlike staying in one version, switching versions will mean a rebuild of the site. here is a good example of a brine site and the customer has two sites, very happy with both. https://waterclinicfl.com/ Link to comment
