Changing the background image on link hover

Hi,

I'm trying to make a specific page's section/banner change as the mouse hovers a link, changing back to black when not hovering over a link. The best example is this: https://www.pulsefilms.com/directors

I am using the Brine template, and an index for this specific page, so I'm changing just a section/banner, not the rest of the page.

I don't understand how I would even start to tackle this.

I would love an answer to this question if you have found it. Squarespace 7.1. I know this effect is available as part of a portfolio page, but then you seem locked into having the slug be sitename.com/portfolioname/projectname

How to change this to sitename.com/anypage? 

Would also love to know if this is possible! Trying to mimic the same effect as the pulse films site. 

My page is www.fifty-fifth.com/work - so once you hover over a different name the background of the entire page changes to a different image.

If you use SS 7.1, you can use Portfolio Page to achieve this.
