Date and time parameters for products

I own a bakery and would like to set up online ordering for bread and pastries with pickup date and time required to place the order. However, we're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and not all breads and pastries are available every day so I'd like to add parameters to the order form to prevent customers from ordering items on days they're not available, from selecting a pickup time outside our trading hours, and preventing them from ordering within 48 hours of the pickup time. Is this possible with squarespace ecommerce? I'd also like to do the same for a bread subscription option.

It will depend on your requirements. It's possible to make it work, but there are a number of limitations. It usually works Ok for single product orders, for example where a florist delivers a single bouquet, but not for orders for multiple products. This is because you can set parameters at the product level, but not at the order level. It's an issue with the checkout; Squarespace doesn't allow us to customise it beyond a few styling tweaks so we cannot add code to enforce parameters like these per order.

If you can provide more information, we may be able to suggest what is possible in your case.

I'm having the same issue with a client's checkout for their custom cake business. We need to enforce a three-day lead time at checkout for delivery because people are ignoring the lead time message on the product page and ordering for next-day delivery. Has anyone found a solution yet?

Hi Paul,

How do you do this at product level? What I want is orders not to be made possible outside of opening hours - it's a click and collect for a restaurant.

Squarespace has not been designed with this in mind, so whilst it's great for showcasing your business, location and products, you may be better off using a third-party service to manage the takeaway orders.

I don't know where you are geographically, but in the UK we have SK Takeaway. This has been designed specifically for this purpose.

Hi Guys, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am wondering if anyone found a solution to this problem?

I just built a site for my girlfriends charcuterie board business, but she needs to limit the amount or orders to be delivered on a single day, since we are delivering the orders locally ourselves.

I included a custom form for each that requests desired delivery date and time, but there is no way to block out certain dates and times.

Paul, I noticed SF Digital offers the Datepicker plugin which looks like it will work for this application. Is this the solution to our problems?

Just following this thread as I am jumping ship from GoDaddy to either Squarespace or Shopify. It looks like @YZBrad is after the same type of feature!

I sell made-to-order decorated sugar cookies. I have found Shopify will do what I need, but the add-in costs are adding up fast and a more cost effective solution is always great (I mean no one ever said 'no thanks - I want to pay more right?')

My customers order their cookies through my website, they choose their pickup/delivery date and time when placing the order that has a minimum 10 day lead time. In addition to this I need to be able to block out days, ie: If I want to take a weekend off, I have an appointment, or simply have reached the maximum number of orders I can deliver and eet for pick ups in a day. Being double booked is stressful.

Having this feature will absolutely make or break my decision on which platform I use. Currently GoDaddy does not offer this feature, and having outgrown their template based options, its time to make the change and take back control of my schedule. (No really... yesterday was my first day off since Christmas as it's just me.)

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

@YZBrad, did you have any luck using SF Digital's Datepicker plugin? I'm considering using it to sell plants to offer pickup/delivery dates.

Thanks!

I've sent you a message in case you'd like to like to ask any questions about the Datepicker.

Hi! Can’t help but pick up on this old topic as I am helping a friend set up a site for her small bakery and have the exact same need. Shopify will be too difficult for her to manage.

Did Datepicker work as a workaround? I need customer to only be able to order products on the days they are available. I seem to be able to limit this in the product setup. But often they will order a few days or weeks in advance and I need their order to count in the product limit for the day, they are ordering for, and not for the day, they are placing the order.

so any insights into how others have solved the date/time challenge for fresh products, would be much appreciated!
