Personalization Option

Recommended Posts

We sell mostly one of a kind products like cutting boards & charcuterie boards on our website: https://libertyboardworks.com/

We also offer laser engraving to personalize these products and I'm trying to figure out how to add this as an option on some of our product pages.

I need to be able to do the following:

  • Select personalization (yes/no)
  • If yes:
    • Add to the price
    • Require a form to describe the personalization/text
  • If no, add the product to the cart without displaying or requiring the personalization form.
  • In both cases deduct from the inventory of the same product.

So far, I've tried adding an option/variant and it works for incrementing the price, but then the inventory thinks we have 2 products available (1 personalized and 1 not).

I've also tried adding a custom form, but it pops up even if you do not choose the personalized option which would be very confusing to a customer.

Has anyone figured out a way to do this?

Thanks!

Hey Craig did you find any help on this? I am looking to do almost the same thing (but also include a colour swatch and text sample) (not as complex as this but color swatch and personalise box on individual product with printed font example https://www.spreadshirt.com.au/shop/design/best+of+the+best+mens+pique+polo+shirt-D5afbf9b1aa0c6d1117717dd2?sellable=VRpyOQ5yAkCRqYMMDqlB-1412-206&appearance=231&color=CBCBCB

@tuanphan

do you know if this is possible?

I believe you can do this!

Create two variations, label the variation 'Personalisation', one is no, the second is yes. You can then adjust the price accordingly.

On the form tab, you would then insert a custom form like so.

Don't tick 'required' because otherwise the customer would have to insert something even if they hadn't selected personalisation.

Maybe I missed it, but under this solution, it looks like the Personalisation form would appear whether the customer chose Yes or No. This does not solve the need for "If no, add the product to the cart without displaying or requiring the personalization form.".  Could you clarify, because I too have a similar need where we would like to show a form to one variant and not to the other variant...

@ilrats33

If I understand correctly you offer prints that can be mounted in several ways but do not require a personalized message or engraving? Is that correct?

If so I would think the standard product variants settings would work for you. Please see Adding basic product variants.

Did any of you end up switching platforms to find something better? I do not think variants will work in the long run, but maybe there aren't any platforms to achieve this goal.

Wordpress and shopify is more dynamic on this and can be installed with custom plugin for product options.
