Duplicate contents on Squarespace

Hello, I have a doub regarding SEO on SquareSpace.

When I created my Homepage, I had to put a URL SLUG on it: SqareSpace dosen not allows me to create a webpage without slug. So, I put luxury-italian-wedding-photographer-italy as slug. The result is that, now, I have TWO PAGES online:

https://www.stefanocassaro.com/luxury-italian-wedding-photographer-italy

Which have both the same content: in other words, Google will consider those two pages as DUPLICATED CONTENT, which is not good for ranking.

My question is: how can I fix this problem? I want only ONE UNIQUE URL for my Home Page, how can I achieve it on Square Space?

+1 This seems to be the case I'm trying to solve, too. In essence, every Squarespace site's homepage will be a duplicate (duplicate content) because there's essentially two pages of the same thing: the homepage present at just 'domain/' (no slug, who uses a slug for their homepage?) and the homepage present at 'domain/homeslug' which is also what displays in the sitemap.xml.

I even found a guide on Squarespace that recommends there should be no slug for the homepage. It´s on this page https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205814818

I´ll ask in the chat option now and share if I hear something useful

+1 This hasn't been solved. And answers provided by mods on other threads relating to the same issues haven't been helpful. They don't seem to see the issue with having the homepage appear twice in the sitemap... 😮‍💨

You cannot avoid having a slug for your home page, so give it the slug "home" as in   xxx.com/home. Home does not show up in the browser bar. Google does not treat /home like a second page, it has not for my home page in the nine years I have had it.

@derricksrandomviews if you are right then why I get in the google search console this (see attachment) for the /home page. It's actually identified as duplicate content.

Can you clarify if this is something that can damage the website ranking ?

Is /home marked as your home page? Does it have the house icon next to it in config/pages list?  

Hi @FlorinaB. @derricksrandomviews is correct. There is no "solution" needed here. Assuming /home is your "homepage" it is fine. Much of what shows up on the indexing report is informational vs errors that need to be fixed.

Regarding, alternate page with proper canonical tag: "This page is marked as an alternate of another page (that is, an AMP page with a desktop canonical, or a mobile version of a desktop canonical, or the desktop version of a mobile canonical). This page correctly points to the canonical page, which is indexed, so there is nothing you need to do."
