Trigger 0 Share Posted January 15, 2020 Hi all, I've done a speed test with google for my website and it's warning me that I'm not using JPEG2000 to reduce load time. I tried changing my images on my website to JPEG2000 but squarespace isn't allowing me to add that file format to the images function. Any idea how to resolve this? My website is www.triggersanj.com Template: Ethan. Thank you. Link to post
vchiline 0 Share Posted February 23, 2020 Squarespace doesn't use the modern photo compression formats. Also, you're using PageSpeed Insights which is designed to test "from the ground up" style websites and not for pre-built template ones. It gives back erroneous info. Use https://tools.pingdom.com/ instead to test. Link to post

seanhoyt 152 Share Posted March 24, 2020 Does Google not rank sites using the PageSpeed data? Mine scores 2/100. Pingdom is 85/100. Link to post
jlama 0 Share Posted September 1, 2020 (edited) I am experiencing the same with my site. Any other ways to check ranks? or to optimize the squarespace site? Edited September 1, 2020 by jlama Link to post
derricksrandomviews 466 Share Posted September 1, 2020 What you think you want to do is highly overrated. SS is optimized to give a visitor a good viewing experience with a myriad of different browsers, devices, and internet providers. What is "optimized" for one combination of those things may not be the case for another. I found that out as a business internet tech for many years. JPEG 2000 was first developed in 1997, I would hardly call it modern, and would not call it an error because SS doesn't use that format. My SS site is full of images, home page alone is 14.6mb compressed and loads in 1.6 seconds. I find no fault with that at all. Link to post

derricksrandomviews 466 Share Posted September 1, 2020 I would say so, 6,5 seconds to fully load the site, sure, we both got a bad grade for "compression" but considering I don't compress my jpg images at all before uploading and some can be larger than 7mb I think the site runs pretty fast.
