Index Homepages – Do you hide page sections on search results?

We're doing a little SEO housekeeping to kickstart the new year and went through each page to make sure all the SEO/social meta data was filled in (per the SEO checklist). We then noticed that when we first launched, we hid all page sections in our homepage index from search results. Is this the best practice? What are the pros and cons of doing this?

I do this because I don't want the section showing up as a "page" in Google search results. My page sections wouldn't make sense alone and need to be seen in relation to the entire page.
