Remove Fade transitions from images and text in banner slideshow

I'm trying to create a slideshow banner on my website that rotates through a series of images so that it looks like an animated gif - but I also want to add description text to each image so this rotates through automatically as well. I can't get the desired effect as there is an automated fade in/out on both the images and text.

I've seen a post with some custom CSS that removes the transition from the text for web/tablet but not mobile. 

I haven't found anything that will remove the fade in/out from the image transitions.

Ideally I'd like to just place one animated gif as the banner image and have text rotating over the top (without any fade in/out)

It's just a trial page I'm experimenting with a few things at this stage.
