7.1 text over gallery slideshow

I usually work in WP and I am working on my first SS site and started it after all things moved to 7.1 . I see so much info on creating using 7.0 and many people suggesting using Brine for most sites. I need roll over states on my navigation and a banner image on each page to function as a slider. I can see how to create a gallery with images in slideshow, but I do not see any way to have copy or a button on top. Is there a hack to do this?  IF not,  I think have to start over basically and use 7.0 instead to do what I want to do but that seems like a waste of time! Any suggestions? 

Marcie, I'm in the exact same situation. I have not been able to find a better solution and customer service suggests rebuilding the site from scratch in Brine (or Bedford) 7.0.

This feature is so basic. I don't know why they would remove it.

I just can't believe the solution is to redo the site. I do not have time to do that. I am trying to find a developer who can give me code to make it work in 7.1
