fromscratchlb
Hi, I am selling both food items and pottery on my site. The food items do not need to be taxed in california but the pottery does. I can't figure out how to apply taxes to only certain items though. Is there any kind of work around for this? rothklee, GHjosh, ciuli and 5 others 8 Link to comment
SquarespaceAddThisNow
I've asked SquareSpace for the same thing. They should give users the options to override tax. RusticSoap, presentlosaltos, magnusmoon and 8 others 11 Link to comment
DougR
Just spoke with someone on chat (very good experience, by the way) and this is still not possible. The whole point of providing the ability to capture taxes separately is to make my job easier when filing with my state's taxation department. If I have to figure out which items were incorrectly priced due to non-taxability, I've lost that convenience and I might as well *not* separate taxes from my product prices. Please, developers, add this feature. Wix + Weebly handles this properly! A simple checkbox on each product would suffice. I have to admit that I'm amazed this site/product/store is as popular as it is without this feature - it really made me think I was missing something. But nope. I hope this gets resolved so I can switch to SquareSpace from a competitor - I like the looks! GHjosh, rothklee, kathybridges and 10 others 11 2 Link to comment
shiborigirl
Agree- this is definity something that needs attention. I sell product (taxable in my state) as well as a non taxable service (such as a workshop) that does not get taxed. My only option is to refund the sales tax to those who purchase a non taxable workshop-not ideal! Please add a feature to make this possible! Thank you! rothklee, RusticSoap, SCO and 10 others 13 Link to comment
alexandremorin
I agree, I also wish to sell products with and without taxes, a simple checkbox on each product, taxable or not. Would be a godsend! GHjosh, rothklee, megseoh and 8 others 11 Link to comment
GHjosh
i am having the same issue, does anyone have any advice on how to manage this issue while we twiddle our thumbs waiting for squarespace to add this sorely needed feature? fredericG, rothklee and RusticSoap 3 Link to comment
cmpnd
Seems insane that theres no option to add a tax exempt status to some items. Haven't even heard of a workaround for this. rothklee, RusticSoap, paperseasondesigns and 1 other 4 Designer and lover of all things. Link to comment
fredericG
@SQUARESPACE with all the online store popping up, this should be high on the list. My client needs this for his store, and now i have to tell him the tool i recommended for tis simplicity might end up being complicated… megseoh, paperseasondesigns, Floreo_Creative and 1 other 4 Link to comment
siweisong
Right now, the only workaround I found is posting tax exempt products as service products but it is far from ideal. Link to comment

magnusmoon
I am having the same issue with taxes in MA. Clothing under a certain amount is not taxable, but other items in the store are. An option to make an item tax exempt would do the trick. Hoping this changes soon. Please keep us posted! Link to comment
Chrisate
I feel this is a vital option for an e-commerce type store. This puts a huge difference between following appropriate tax laws and ensuring your customers paying what they are supposed to be paying. Wish this was an option now, but I haven't seen it being one yet. Link to comment
Member
It looks like Squarespace has yet to add this feature. It would be great to have since gift cards are non taxable here... cmpnd and pipervanord 2 Link to comment

So curious....So WHAT is the solution??? Do you apply 6.25 to everything and give people tax refunds, not apply taxes, or remove those items require tax in MA? Link to comment
ALEFF
Same problem. I sell non taxable food and taxable prepared foods and events. I just scrapped my old website and moved to squarespace on the advice of other sellers. I'm already regretting it. How flexible taxing not be a priority? Link to comment
goodefarmer
I have been asking about this feature for YEARS and am getting ready to migrate my website to something else. Super frustrating. Link to comment
graziellacoffeecompany
HEY THERE SQUARESPACE and the award winning 24/7 customer service!! Such a simple fix on your end - What are you waiting for? Surely you're making enough money to put somebody on this project. Add a tax override for specific items. How long could that take? Can't you imagine that many of your users are selling many items, some of which may not fall under the blanket of needing to be taxed like all others? These small things add up to people wanting to migrate platforms. yikesstudio and SSong 1 1 Link to comment
sstinus
Crazy ...it should be a basic implementation. Link to comment
CELO
So still no update in sight then? Link to comment
yikesstudio
Come on Squarespace! I need to sell taxable items retail and have non taxable for my wholesale orders! this is ridiculous. I reeeaaalllly don't want to migrate to another provider. misteropossum 1 Link to comment
ChristinaMaria
Hi, I am encountering a huge limitation with Squarespace as it does not seem to be possible to add different tax rates depending on product or product category. In Germany, food and books are taxed with 7%, everything else is taxed with 19%. But Squarespace only gives me one fixed tax rate. (Which means I am losing 12% of my sales in the above mentioned categories.) Huge bummer, as this makes the platform incompatible with the German market. Is there any way to work around this? Or is Squarespace planning to fix this? Edited February 25, 2021 by ChristinaMaria spelling issie 1 Link to comment
rothklee
watching here - I'm having a similar problem. Client site, legislation states some classes are taxable, others aren't. So, we have to work out which products stay live, and which ones need to come down! Crazy approach. Can tax rate be a selection on Product Page, like Forms? Link to comment
danalunn
This is a necessary update. PLEASE!! As many have mentioned a simple checkbox to apply tax or not to a product and ability to set a store default... NEEDED! Link to comment
sruss76
not going to do much by asking Squarespace here on the forums for a feature that is crucial/essential to running a business. you need to log in a ticket and make the request there so they see it. they have mentioned before they do not really monitor the forums for feature requests. PineHeart
Everyone needs to request tax specific items from Squarespace. IE, no tax, GST, or GST/PST (HST). I just spoke with them and it's not going to happen unless they are bombarded with requests. Link to comment
