Byrant template: Is there a way for event listings to not pull the thumbnail through to a large banner on an individual event page?

I've searched and found some similar questions to this one, but for blog posts and tried using the code snippets on those threads to hide the banner that is pulled from the thumbnail image for the events, but it also hides the site logo and our navigation (because that's all in white).

Is there a way to hide the banner while not hiding the site logo and main site nav? Or even using a solid color in place of white there, so that the site nav and logo show against it?
