Active Color for Custom Font in Nav Bar not fully filling the Font

Hey gang. I am using a custom font for a website I am working on. In the Navigation Bar, however, the font doesn't fully fill with the new color when I hover over it. See the attached images. This doesn't happen in Chrome, but my friend I am designing for is using Safari and saying to use a different browser seems like a poor idea. Happy to share code or anything to get an answer.
