Does squarespace compress images?

Squarespace 7.0 does not compress images. That is, they do not use compression techniques to reduce file sizes.

However, Squarespace do create up to seven versions of every image, each with a different resolution. These are not 'compressed' they just have smaller dimensions. Squarespace then serve the most appropriate image size based on the visitor's screen. The one exception is images uploaded via the control panel, such as background images. These always display at their original image width.
