Add an "auto" feature in a store's products layout and adding some padding to the store page

Hi,

I'd like my products images to show just as they are (ie. some images are square, others vertical or horizontal). Is there a way to add an "auto" feature to a store page layout to respect these native images formats?

Also, I noticed in all templates, stores are always "edge-to-edge", is there a way to fix that? ie. to add some padding to the left and right if we want to, as well as adding some text on top of the page, if need be?
