How do I make an Archive block's drop down filter a gallery on the same page?

I have an archive block, using the drop down menu to sort a gallery by using categories. But when the drop down loads and you click one, you leave the current page and travel inside the gallery itself. I just want the click to load those gallery items into a visual under the archive block on the same page, instead of making the user leave the page they are on entirely. Help please!!!
