How do I put a folder within a folder in the navigation?

PMDesigner

Question

Lets try this again.

The last question I posted seems to have not made it anywhere over the past 3 days.

How do i nest folders in the navigation for the bedford template, or in other words make it so that a drop down can have a dropdown in it. This is very important to my client. This is very simple. If Squarespace does not allow this I may very well have to use something else.

I found one thread about this and it never got answered...

The next thread I found about this, they basically said "One level deep is best.", the complaints were ignored, and the question was closed...

I am starting to get the idea that squarespace is not a real good company as far as support and flexibility go.

i'm begging you; change my mind!

Hi @PMDesigner ,

It's not possible - Squarespace only allows you to have one folder (rather than nesting them within each-other). It CAN be done using the Developer Mode; but needs to be configured in the template files.

We have explained how we achieved this here:https://www.dcodegroup.com/blog/multi-level-menu-in-squarespace

Feel free to reach out if you need assistance with this.

Thanks,AndrewDCODE GROUP

Hi @egreen118 ,

I think @PMDesigner was asking how you add a folder within a folder - which is not possible. The link provided shows you how to add a drop-down (but not a drop-down within a drop-down, etc).

Note: This URL refers to Squarespace V5 - the current Squarespace version is 7.

No worries - let me know if you get stuck, happy to help further directly if we can.

The thing about Squarespace is that it does what it does well - but outside that, it can be fairly inflexible.

Because it comes with native Templates, the configuration is fairly limited. Navigation, Sub Navigation and Sub-Sub-Navigation simply have never been part of the off-the-shelf templates and as such are not supported. To get this to work you not only have to change the configuration of the system; you also have to change the templates - which is unlikely to be supported for some time.

I need to be able to do this too: Squarespace was sold to us on the premise that it was flexible. We're a writing group, but we also need a nested folder or submenu for our resources. Our resources are divided into categories so people can find them easily, but as I can't yet get a sub-menu from each resource section, we cannot upload all of our content. A friend has suggested that we set each page up as a blog page, which you then click through to get the full article, but the full blog entry still shows up on the main page. I'm new to all of this and currently trying to work out a myriad of other things for our group (which is a national project in the UK), so getting this right is really important. Thanks in advance :) Stephen.

I'll try a different take on this question, now that I know nested folders (or subfolders etc), isn't really do-able on the Squarespace platform. So, within folders - or on any page - I can neatly create external links to other sites. How can I create pages with links to 'hidden' pages within our site itself? A bit like having a submenu/nested folder, but using the page itself as the menu.

For example, we need to upload lots of different articles to our site and I've organised folders for each category (these are off of our main menu). As each category will have more than one article (which could be a research item, teacher resource, etc), how do I create a page with links to the articles that doesn't show the full article itself? And where would I be able to put those articles on the website? Each page could have 20+ articles/links on it, so it needs to be something that's easily manageable. I've tried using index pages, but for every folder item I have, I need a duplicate 'hidden' index folder and arranging 20+ articles in one index folder (or having 20+ pages within the index which effectively all show the same thing) isn't really manageable. For example, under our 'resources' menu we currently have five categories that the resources would be sorted into. For example, there's a 'starting' resources page where I need to put around 20 articles without showing the full content of the article. Those articles need to be linked internally as it's our own research/resources that we are sharing,

If anyone knows what I mean and has a way around this, that would be great. Thanks!

@tuanphan I'm also interested in MegaMenu, because let's face it -- we should be able to navigate as easy as we want!

Try this plugin. https://thompsonweb.design/squarespace-plugins-extensions/mega-menu-plugin-squarespace
