Domain Transfer

Recommended Posts

I am transferring a non squarespace site to squarespace. I got the site released from the provider and was provided the transfer code. I went through the necessary steps and it now says that transfer is pending. However that was 6 days ago. I did receive an email saying

"We received your payment and request to transfer XXXXX.com to Squarespace. We will extend registration by one year upon completion of the transfer."

I also checked with the domain provider and they said they also received an email from the domain registrar that the site was being transferred.

Is it typical for a transfer to take this long. Did I miss any steps?

@dooroomee

I've not transferred a domain out of SS but in general my experience has been that if all parties are willing, as in not actively being difficult, then most transfers can happen with minutes. I.e. as fast as you can go through whatever process has been set up by both sides.

Usually when I've seen problems occur is when some step of the process wasn't completed properly. Like responding to a verification email. The other thing to make sure you've done is turn of domain transfer lock. Most of the domain registrars have this feature that is automatically set when you register a domain. It basically says the domains can not be transferred until the lock setting has been turned off.
