Can change gallery from horizontal scrolling to vertical scrolling on mobile devices?

Is it possible to have a gallery change from horizontal scrolling for desktop version to vertical scrolling for mobile devices?

I have a gallery page that looks nice scrolling horizontally, but when the responsive design changes to mobile or tablet and so portrait it leaves a lot of blank space underneath and generally doesn't look that good.

I would like a gallery that when in mobile or tablet mode will scroll vertically and in desktop horizontally.

Any help anyone has to offer on this is appreciated!

In a word, no. However, there may be other things you can do to adjust spacing or design. The community will need a working link to your website in order to see the issue, the template you are using and the settings in use.

If you don't intend to put content below this, one solution would be to show the content in a Carousel Gallery Block on desktop (similar to what you have now)

and then switch to a Stack Gallery Block or Grid Gallery Block on mobile devices:

That's exactly what I want to do! But, when I change it on mobile to stacked it does it for desktop too and vice versa. I spoke to someone on the squarespace team and they said they didn't think it was possible, but I thought I'd ask here in case someone knows a way.

It's possible :-)

The next step is to create a page where you can see it working.

Add the two Gallery Blocks to it, one above the other. Add the images to both. Set the first one to Carousel and the second to Stacked or Grid, as discussed above.

Once built, you'll need some CSS to hide one of the galleries depending on the visitor's device. if you need help with this, post a link to the page and I'll take a look.

Glad to hear it's possible, I've added the two gallery blocks and saved the changes. Same link, www.studiovidere.com. I don't know too much about CSS though so would definitely love your help.

Now that you've added two Gallery Blocks in different styles, add this to Design > Custom CSS:

@media only screen and (max-width: 768px) {
 #block-yui_3_17_2_1_1563217934473_3719 {
   display:none;
 }
}
@media only screen and (min-width: 769px) {
 #block-yui_3_17_2_1_1563302730204_24847 {
   display: none;
 }
}

When you switch between mobile and desktop, you should see the different views. It works by referring to the unique reference ID of each Gallery Block. As they are unique, it would stop working if you deleted one of these specific blocks.

Let me know how you get on.

That's the standard margin above the page content on mobile. You can reduce it with:

@media only screen and (max-width: 768px) {
 .site-spacing-extra-small .site-page {
   margin-top: 0;
 }
}
