  1. Dear Community, I found a great option to get squarespace website in multilanguage, the base code are great but I did have problem at the end. The main page in english version work as well but when customer choose another flag to switch language the main navigation did not exclude all other langage . I probably did something wrong on the code could you please help me to get a solution for it ??? it might be simple for some of you but I am beginner. Thanks for your help !!!!😍 Find bellow the footer code I used : <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/flag-icon-css/2.6.0/css/flag-icon.css"> <script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.4.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <script> $(function() { /* SETUP MULTI-LANGUAGE */ var defaultLanguage = 'en'; var lang = location.pathname.split("/")[1]; var defaultClass = 'lang-'+defaultLanguage+''; var itemParent = "nav [class*='collection'],nav [class*='folder'],nav [class*='index'],nav [class*='group'],[class*='link']"; if (lang == "" || lang.length > 2 ){ var lang = defaultLanguage; } /* ADD LANGUAGE CLASSES */ $('a[href="/"]').addClass('lang-'+defaultLanguage+'').parents(itemParent).addClass('lang-'+defaultLanguage+''); $('nav a:link:not([href^="http://"]):not([href^="https://"])').each(function () { var langType = $(this).attr('href').split("/")[1]; var multiLanguageClass = 'multilanguage lang-' + langType + ''; if (undefined !== langType && langType.length <= 2) $(this).addClass(multiLanguageClass).parents(itemParent).addClass(multiLanguageClass); }); $('nav button').each(function () { var langTypeFolder = $(this).attr('data-controller-folder-toggle').split("/")[0]; var multiLanguageClass = 'multilanguage lang-' + langTypeFolder + ''; if (undefined !== langTypeFolder && langTypeFolder.length <= 2) $(this).addClass(multiLanguageClass); }); /* HOMEPAGE-LOGO LINKS TO PROPER LANGUAGE HOMEPAGE */ if (lang == "fr") { $('a[href="/"]').attr("href", "/fr/"); $('#mainNavigation a[href="/fr/"]').parent().remove(); $('#mobileNavigation a[href="/fr/"]').parent().remove(); } /* ADD EXCLUSION NAV ITEMS */ $('.sqs-svg-icon--list a,.SocialLinks-link').addClass('exclude'); $('#mainNavigation a[href="/en/home"]').addClass('exclude').parent().addClass('exclude language'); $('#mainNavigation a[href="/fr/"]').addClass('exclude').parent().addClass('exclude language'); $('#mobileNavigation a[href="/en/home"]').addClass('exclude').parent().addClass('exclude language'); $('#mobileNavigation a[href="/fr/"]').addClass('exclude').parent().addClass('exclude language'); /* REMOVE OTHER LANGUAGES AND KEEP EXCLUDED ITEMS */ $('.multilanguage:not(".lang-'+lang+',.exclude")').remove(); /* SETUP LANGUAGE SWITCHER */ $('body').prepend('<div class="language"><a href="/en/home" class="lang-en"><span class="flag-icon flag-icon-us"></span></a> <a href="/fr/accueil" class="lang-fr"><span class="flag-icon flag-icon-fr"></span></a> <a href="/de/home" class="lang-de"><span class="flag-icon flag-icon-de"></span></a></div>'); /* NOT REQUIRED */ /* SETUP URL REROUTE FOR MATCHING LANGUAGE PAGE */ switch (window.location.pathname) { case '/en/home': $(".language a.lang-en").attr("href", "/en/home"); $(".language a.lang-fr").attr("href", "/fr/accueil"); break; case '/fr/accueil': $(".language a.lang-en").attr("href", "/en/home"); $(".language a.lang-fr").attr("href", "/fr/accueil"); break; } }); </script>
  2. Couldn't find a solution in search, so here goes: How can I change "First name" and "Last name" field texts to another language in contact forms? Squarespace 7.1, and no Business Plan so Javascript solutions don't work. Feels like a pretty basic thing to change, but I'm stumped!
  3. Site URL: https://tulip-bugle-2x42.squarespace.com/work Hi friends! I am new in squarespace. I started with a portfolio site and after a while wanted to make it multilingual since I need it to be in several languages for different kind of audiences. However, I am able to duplicate pages but can't find a way to duplicate 'portfolio' unit since it's the base of the structure of my website. Can someone help me please? Thanks in advance 🙂 Joaquín
  4. Hi I have a tour operator site with activities in mutliple, quite different, locations. When people log into the site I would like them to be able to choose which location they are interested, similar to how one might choose a language. A few more details: Ideally I would use as little coding as possible Some of the pages (eg. about, contact) will be the same regardless of the location you choose, but once you choose the location the top menu bar should display the different pages eg. Home, Events, Activities, About ... The customer should be able to switch between sites easily through a dropdown on the menubar I have had a look and found this: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205809778-Creating-a-multilingual-site-in-Squarespace (example multilingual site here: https://bedford-multilingual.squarespace.com/) The problem with this is that the menu bar will only ever display the names of the different locations, so it will be clumbersome to navigate. Another suggestion is to create multiple sites and have a cover page linking to both, which seems overkill as I would need to pay twice for a simple website. It would also be clumbersome as I think the user would need to go all the way back to home to switch to the other site. I can't think of an example for other tour operators, but the same principle work on the Intuit site (https://www.intuit.com/): you can select an Indian, American, or Canadian version of the site, which are all similar but tailored to different locations. If you want to change at any point there is country dropdown in the top right hand corner. Would love to know if such a thing is possible. Ideally without html but am open to suggestions. This is something I see a lot with online stores and is going to be really important to a lot of people managing international websites. Perhaps there is a plugin that would help? Though I have been unable to find one. Cheers
  5. Hi, Following earlier recommendations, I built 2 websites for my brand (with 2 e-commerce, 2 currencies). One in English and one in French (momecare.com and momecare.fr). But I notice that my French visitors land on the English one and get lost. I quickly added a link with text (Francais and English) in the main navigator but it does not look good. I am not a pro and I don't code. Any advise on how to add a flag linked to the website in the other language OR even better, make sure visitors with IP locator in France land automatically on my French website. Thanks!
  6. Hello people, Do you have examples or tips on how to create a multilingual website in Squarespace 7.1? Thanks a lot! Marinske.
  7. How can I create multilingual site in Squarspace version 7.1 IS IT POSSIBLE AT ALL!?!?
  8. There are several approaches to realize a multilingual site in Squarespace. All of the existing solutions have drawbacks. In the answer, you will find a solution for localization of squarespace sites without drawbacks. 1) Official Squarespace Solution Does not work on all templates. Structural limitation - you only have one navigation level left perlanguage. Language selector menu not very nice. 2) Using multiple squarespace sites with language subdomains You have to pay the Squarespace fee per language3) Using external localization services like localize.js oder bablic.com You have to pay for external services. There are additional resources that have to be downloaded Does SEO work well on these solutions? Did not investigate this. 4) Javascript based on CSS Selectors and page IDs Unflexible when adding pages, JS has to be adapted and grows
  9. Site URL: https://www.dlopezlaw.com/es/comunicacion I am creating a multilingual site and have managed to do everything I need it to do except changing the time caption (Hour and Minute to Hora and Minuto) on the contact form on the Spanish version. I was able to follow a previous question to change the first name and last name caption but can't figure out how to do the same for the Hour and Minute (I am hiding the second option).

  11. I'm trying to create a cover page for my website so that I can offer access to both a french version and an english version. However Squarespace version 7.1 doesn't seem to have the option for a cover page. How do I create a cover page without the header and footer which simply has an image with buttons to english and french in which people can choose which version they access. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me find the answer. I've been looking everywhere and can't find the answer!
  12. Hello, I am setting a trial site to migrate my existing one to Squarespace. I followed this link instructions on how to create a multilingual site: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/205809778 but I don't know how to duplicate the 'store' page, so that I get the same products on both languages, plus I can't find any info on how to translate a product. Does anybody have a multilingual commercial site, and how have you solved this issues? Thank you!
  13. I have two different sites to handle two languages. ( currics.com and currics.se ) Is it possible for them to share common css somehow? I have tried having a common less file on another server and importing it via less, but it doesn't seem to work This at the top of my custom css: @import url(https://static.currics.com/css/generic.less); just gives me an error: Cannot read property 'href' of undefined. Not sure about if I will end up in Cross-origin problems later but the error comes before that, in the editor. Shouldn't this be possible?
  14. Hello, I want to build an hotel webpage in 4 languages. How would you handle this ?? Thanks
  15. Update: I posted a new tutorial on hiding links in navbar here, in case you are interested I see that a lot of people have the same kind of problem and the root of it is that there isn't any effective way to have a bilingual SS6 site. So if you want to make a bilingual site what are your options? the Google Translator, which is no option for me this method by SS, no an option either After a lot of research and brainstorming I came up with the conclusion that you can: Create a blog/page in your primary language of choice (X- for me that's GREEK VERSION) Duplicate each page/blog(for blogs must be done manually), modify its language (to Y- eg ENGLISH VERSION) and move them to the unlinked pages section, so their links won't be in the nav-bar In "Top Navigation" add the pages' links that you want to appear in the navigation bar eg About page, Contact etc in both languages Then with a simple CSS code you can hide the X language's pages from the Y language's blog and vice versa. So your in your English blog will appear only English pages, info in the nav bar, in Greek only Greek etc. You got it! You can put on your sidebar 2 flags or something like this and you can switch between your X-Y language blogs/pages So, all you need is that damn code. So, the code is below and it's the kind answer by: @rwilson and is given here !
  16. hi, I think i have asked a wrong question in what i really want for my website before. I have a site in two languages, in English and Chinese. Has anyone figured how to hide one language's links from the other using only CSS(on 7.1)? I have looked at this here but it does not work for 7.1 at all. I tried this but it does not work at all, what do i have to replace to make them work with 7.1? Thank you so much
  17. Hi there, How are you? Does anyone know how to make this webpage multi language? My entire Squarespace website is French Spanish and English, only "Checkout" page left. It's Urgent, we are ready to launch. Who can help me. I can read a code, but not That hard one 😉 Thank U
  18. Hey everyone! I needed some help! I am currently trying to create a website in 2 different languages so I decided to do my research and read an article on Squarespace on how to make one. I did not think it was that professional so I contacted the customer support and asked if there is another way to make a bilingual website and they sadly said I had to know coding. My current website is https://www.mediaqmarketing.com/ and as soon as you come to the page you get the option to click two buttons. One which gives you access to the English version and the other which gives you access to the Swedish version. What I want to do is as soon as someone clicks on, lets say, the Swedish button, the whole website should be in Swedish. That means that all the english pages I have created should somehow automatically end up in the not linked section of the website. Hopefully you guys understand what I am trying to say. To clarify a bit I found an example of what I am trying to do over here: www.dralessiomocci.com I was wondering if there is anyone who has a quick solution. All help is appreciated! Thank you everyone!
  19. Hello Everyone, i managed to add different primary pages for 4 different languages on my website, but the headers on all pages have disappeared. I'm using sonny template, and i followed a tutorial for five template which explained how to hide the deader in the deader.region file, which is something that i don't have and the site.region doesn't contain any code for the header. is there an alternative way to recreaty maybe links on the secondary page, which appears an all page, and hid successively all the not related link on the language page? (for example 4 links home, 4 about, 1 fo each language, and then hide the 3 not necessary) thank you a lot for your answer
  20. After adding a custom menu with multiple language options, for which it is important to add the language es / en / fr / de at the beginning of a URL. It doesn't seem to function completely, except for the English version. When navigating through the main navigation for Spanish/French/German website it seems to work: http://www.dametulengua.org/es/school, until entering into a blog post such as this one http://www.dametulengua.org/escuela-2/es/tallerconversacional. The top navigation titles suddenly changes to English (I have no idea why it changes to English out of all four languages). How can I edit this? Does it have to do with the page being a blog post of which I can't edit a custom URL? Moreover, I can't seem to hide the menu in the top black part, due to custom code, is there a way to hide this? This is because we get more mobile users, but the custom menu doesn't work for them so I manually added navigation in red text on all pages, to make it work on mobile. However on the desktop version, this leads to both the menu in the black header and the red added text menu showing up. Thank you in advance.
  21. Hello, I hope I am writing under the right topic. My company is about to publish our new website. We would like for it to automatically recognize the language of the visitor and switch to that one. How can I do that? Thanks for the help, Tena! :)
  22. Hi all, to make this short as possible and clear enough this is my problem: Im using Marquee template for years now and it is multilingual hiding navigation Menu in different language using nth-child and it is working like a charm for years but to make this css code to work I had to disable Mobile Styles in Template Settings. Now I'm working on migration to Brine template and after a two weeks of hard work I have found that Brine is not supporting this feature and I need it desperately because I don't know other solution. Can this be done with CSS just to force desktop Menu on Mobile as well because nth-child code works only for desktop navigation menu??? THANKS IN ADVANCE...
  23. Hello, My website is multilingual, German and English. I have two variants of every page of my website. On summaries, is there any way to translate the "Read More" link using css. I know how to target the the link to change colours or text, but is it possible to have my website show "Read More" on my English site and "Weiterlesen" on my German site? Greetings from Hamburg, Max
  24. Hello, I am using Horizon. I am creating a multilingual website and I want my Cover Page to link to one of the 2 Index Pages (one for each language). I've noticed that if I set the Cover Page as the homepage I can't see the pages in the navigation. Is it the intended behaviour? any workaround to this? Thanks in advance for any help!
  25. Hi all, I've got a fairly simple, bilingual site set up in ver. 7.1 using two navigation folders, one for each language. I've set the URL slugs to "/eng" (for English) and "/ita" (for Italian). I've also got blogs in each of these folders. Now, I had assumed that the folder's "URL slug" would be added to the complete URL (e.g. ".../eng/blog/article.html" or ".../eng/about.html"), but that doesn't appear to be the case. At least not by default. Is there a way to add this bit to the actual URL in order to separate the files for each language? For now, I've given the Italian blog the URL slug "/blog-it" to distinguish it from the English-language blog (which is just "blog" for now). It seems counterintuitive to me that the URL slug for blogs gets added to the actual URL, but the folder URL slug doesn't. TIA,Grey
