  1. Is there any way to work and test the website locally? I know there is an option to clone the template and work on the template code, but that applies mostly for styles. What if I want to work with the content, or in our case - make our own API? I find it very hard to write and test code in the small window of Header/Custom CSS in the Squarespace interface and I am wondering if there is something I am missing or not aware of.
  2. Sorry guys im new to this platform. I'm afraid about bullet 3 and 6
  3. (FE) Can we get rid of the grid???!!! Why does SquareSpace NEED the grid for placing blocks??? PLEASE GET RID OF THE GRID! also, another suggestion... Allow multiple responsive previews instead of just one generic "mobile" view. The responsive view are WAAAAY off across some devices. Let's go SS, BE BETTER!!!
  4. Site URL: https://paddlefish-badger-xgen.squarespace.com/ Please I am trying to switch my website to developer mode and following through the steps in the docs is not helpful for me. Home > Settings > Advanced I cannot find the switch to toggle developer mode there
  5. Site URL: https://crimson-eagle-f2t2.squarespace.com/ The reason for my question is this: my work blocks newly registered domains, but the website needs to be viewed at work since it's intended for an upcoming work-related event. So right now, you can access the defaultfreenamesite.squarespace.com URL fine at work. Additionally, I transferred the intended domain name to the site, but that one's blocked at work since it's new. So to be clear, the site has two URLs to access it from, the free one and the one I bought separately and transferred to the squarespace site—the latter is not accessible from work. Due to this, I'm considering just buying a domain through squarespace for this site, and using that when I publish the site. My question therefore is: would this new domain from squarespace be considered "newly registered" or whatever (domains newer than 60 days or something like that)? And if it is, would I still be able to access the site at work via the original default free URL (the xxxxxxxx.squarespace.com one)? And regardless of that outcome, would the site still be accessible by me at home (and at work if I can get it unblocked) at the second domain described in the second paragraph above?
  6. I'm a freelance designer/developer who's still learning some of the ropes. I'm fairly experienced with Wordpress (but still have lots to learn there too!) but am currently working with a client to redesign their Squarespace site. I've learned that unlike with Wordpress or Drupal, there's no support to create a staging site in Squarespace to make major changes without changing (and potentially breaking) the live site. From browsing this forum, I know I'm not the only one who finds that frustrating. Anyway: my client has an existing Squarespace site, and they want a thoroughly redesigned site, also in Squarespace. They'll need a new template, of course, but also some new content (I'm working with them to create some new landing pages), and a completely reorganized navigation structure. Given that, and given Squarespace's limitations for developers, my question is: does it make more sense / is it more of a best practice to: (a) develop the new template design using a different trial site and/or the local development server (which I've played with a little bit), duplicating or creating new individual pages, and then, when it's time to go live, putting a cover page up and doing everything else on the live site while it's down? (like what's described here: https://answers.squarespace.com/questions/67379/how-can-i-redesign-a-clients-site-without-going-live.html) I'm concerned this would put my client's live site down for a while, so I can test everything * with their content * and get their feedback. And it just... feels scary, and kind of insane, compared to how I'd do it in WP, you know? OR, (b) clone all their content, e.g. using the imperfect-but-doable export to WP > export back from WP to SS workaround, developing the redesign on the clone site, and then, when it's time to go live, switching the client's domain to point to the live site? This mostly seems like the safer option, and this is where I'm leaning, but I'm worried I'll end up spending a lot of time spot-checking content, re-uploading blog posts' thumbnail images manually, etc. (And, reader, they have a lot of blog posts.) And it feels like there should be a better way??? OR is there a more sane © that I haven't learned about yet? tl;dr do I need to use clunky import/export workarounds to create a clone site in order to develop a redesign for a client without breaking their live site, or is there a better way? I tried to convince them to move to WP, but it didn't work, so now I'm here. Any guidance appreciated!
  7. Hey, what I thought was a simple ask is turning out not to be. My client is a recruiter and I need some recommendations in terms of how to set up a flow that would start with our registration form being able to accept PDF / Word Doc submissions (resumes) on this page: https://www.ariagency.ca/candidates. I understand File Request Pro can provide this capability, but they don't integrate with Zapier. I need solution to integrate seamlessly with Zapier as I need to be able to set up a Zap to connect to our Bullhorn CRM (add the candidate who registered) as well as add them to our MailChimp list(s). It's easy to integrate Bullhorn & MailChimp via Zapier; when it comes to the PDF submissions part of the equation, Squarespace doesn't seem great at this capability. My chat with an agent today on the subject was abhorrent. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your expertise.
  8. Site URL: https://bugle-emu-6za4.squarespace.com/config/settings I'm a WordPress developer and wanted to get started working in SquareSpace to build custom sites and templates. I followed the Quick Start guide for developers beginning with the base platform, but the directions weren't accurate from my site: Settings > Advanced > Developer Mode (toggle on) doesn't exist. And I couldn't find the base template to get started. I found a Developer API which generates a key, but that doesn't appear to be what I need. I did some searching on the internet, and discovered that developer mode isn't supported in 7.1. My new site automatically defaulted to 7.1 and I can't figure out how to switch it to 7.0 to be able to access developer mode. Is there a different way to be able to create a custom-coded site in 7.1? And is there a different Quick Start guide that covers it? I'm honestly struggling to find the right guide on how to get started now that they've updated the platform.
  9. Hi there, I'm a software engineer that is just messing around in Squarespace for the first time, and I just set up my local dev environment only to hit an error right away: GET /local-assets/site.css -- 500 I looked around to see if anyone else was experiencing this... and it doesn't look like it. If I push my latest and check out the GUI editor, that seems to be working fine (updates are registering), but the local server is not building the site.css file... what gives? I noticed in the documentation there is some mention of the site.css file: Then, immediately after that: So even though that is a little confusing verbiage, I am assuming that this line: "https://localhost:9000/local-assets/site.css" only works for local dev. Next, I checked that address to see what would happen and I got this: Line Statement ------------------------ site.css:794 .newsletter-block { site.css:1207 .mixin-programmatically-focusable-form-elements(); ExecuteError MIXIN_UNDEFINED: Failed to locate a mixin using selector .mixin-programmatically-focusable-form-elements Mind you, I haven't added any css yet. So, I assume that the blank dev template has some issues within the LESS that need to be sorted out... but I don't have access to those files to troubleshoot. So, now I'm thinking either: A) The local dev server is having trouble pulling the correct files. B) The files being pulled are corrupted. My gut is telling me to start over with a blank template... but I don't want to get into the habit of doing that with future builds. Does anyone have experience with this?
  10. I am currently working on a redesign for my client in Squarespace, 7.1 is terrible I have to constantly duplicate the site since it's a larger build and then rework the CSS because the ID's of all my blocks change. Does anyone have a solution for this? I wish I never would have gone into 7.1 for this build and stuck with 7.0. I'm upset that developers seem to be unsupported with this updated version.
  11. Site URL: https://clementine-tarpon-j5as.squarespace.com/module-1/module-1-2-more-stuff I'm trying to make a custom collection of learning modules, and for each lesson in a module (the equivalent of a blog post in a blog collection), I would like to show a list of navigation links to the other lessons in that module. I've got my module.list and module.item pages for the collection. {.repeated section items} works when I run it module.list, but when I run it in module.item, nothing shows up. How do I access the other items in the collection from within an .item page? The blog page in my template has previous and next buttons on each blog post page, so I think it must be possible, but I don't have access to its code under the hood since it's using the squarespace default blog.
  12. Hi. My goal is to make a Member Area website with a custom html/css signup page. Is this possible through Developer Mode? I was unable to create a Member Area template site and then enable Developer Mode. Thanks everyone.
  13. Hello, I've been trying to get a local SquareSpace server running on a VM (Ubuntu 20.04), following the instructions in https://developers.squarespace.com/get-started When I run npm install -g @squarespace/server I return the following error > @squarespace/server@1.6.2 copyrunscript /usr/lib/node_modules/@squarespace/server > node scripts/copyfile.js build/distributions/local-developer/bin/run.bat darwin:build/distributions/local-developer/bin/osx-local-developer win32:build/distributions/local-developer/bin/win-local-developer.bat linux:build/distributions/local-developer/bin/linux-local-developer build/distributions/local-developer/bin/local-developer copying build/distributions/local-developer/bin/linux-local-developer to build/distributions/local-developer/bin/run.bat npm ERR! code EACCES npm ERR! syscall symlink npm ERR! path ../lib/node_modules/@squarespace/server/build/distributions/local-developer/bin/run.bat npm ERR! dest /usr/bin/squarespace-server npm ERR! errno -13 npm ERR! 14. I am building a commerce site for a client and they are going to have literally thousands of products when it is all said and done. I am wondering if and when Squarespace will cut me off because my site is becoming much too large. I don't want to get too far into it and realize that Squarespace is only going to allow a certain number of products or images.
  15. On my site, https://visuals.shunluoifong.com, one of my social icons is showing (LinkedIn) but some aren't (Instagram, Twitter, Vimeo). The icons for IG/Twitter/Vimeo have the "-unauth" appended to the class name...but the accounts are correctly connected via Squarespace settings. One thing to note is that I am in developer mode and am using a customized template. The code in the template (for the header social icons) is below: {.section website} {.if socialAccounts} <div id="socialLinks" class="social-links dsf-masthead-social" style="float: right;"> {.repeated section socialAccounts}<a{.if profileUrl} href="{profileUrl}" target="_blank"{.or} title="{screenname}"{.end} class="social-{serviceName}"></a>{.end} </div> {.end} {.end} In the docs I see that the Social Panel launched this past March. My icons were previously showing just fine (but hadn't really paid attention since March) so am wondering if the new panel is creating an issue. Incidentally, the Vimeo icon was displaying correctly for me yesterday. But in troubleshooting, I tried removing it from the Social Links panel, and re-adding it. Now it is not displaying correctly. Do I need to update my code? I haven't been able to find any sample code in the Developer docs. Any suggestions?
  16. I cannot remember how to add Promoted Blocks to a custom collection? I added the promotedBlocks setting to the .conf and that successfully HIDES the promoted content, but not sure how to add it to the .item page layout to tell it where i want it to display? i dont think SQ provides any documentation for this -- anyone know what the markup is for displaying promoted content? THANK YOU!!
  17. Hi all, trying to get started with Squarespace developing but can't seem to get the server started. I'm running Windows 10 with node installed globally and available on path (all up to date), and I've also tried installing on Ubuntu via WSL2. On Windows, the error is as shown below: At C:\Users\Iamnotacrook\AppData\Roaming\npm\squarespace-server.ps1:12 char:29 + & "$basedir/echo$exe" off & "$basedir/node_modules/@squarespace/ser ... + ~ The ampersand (&) character is not allowed. The & operator is reserved for future use; wrap an ampersand in double quotation marks ("&") to pass it as part of a string. On WSL2 there's a few "not found" errors (assuming based on how WSL2 and Windows interact with each other), but also a syntax error. off off /mnt/c/Users/Iamnotacrook/AppData/Roaming/npm/node_modules/@squarespace/server/build/distributions/local-developer/bin/r: not found /mnt/c/Users/Iamnotacrook/AppData/Roaming/npm/node_modules/@squarespace/server/build/distributions/local-developer/bin/run.bat: 3: @rem: not found /mnt/c/Users/Iamnotacrook/AppData/Roaming/npm/node_modules/@squarespace/server/build/distributions/local-developer/bin/r: not found@rem /mnt/c/Users/Iamnotacrook/AppData/Roaming/npm/node_modules/@squarespace/server/build/distributions/local-developer/bin/run.bat: 5: Syntax error: "(" unexpected What I've found so far in the documentation and on forums hasn't helped (closest I found was this thread with the same issue but no solution). I can't find the exact Stackoverflow thread, but I did also try using an older version of the Squarespace server since I heard that an update ruined some things on Windows. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  18. With developer mode activated, my squarespace site does not render my site with new updates. https://xxxxx.squarespace.com/config/settings/advanced/developer >> Git History verifies that commit has registory in the remote template.git repository Both the FTP and Git repository correctly show the updated version of the file. While, view source code on my production URL (https://www.mydomain.com/1234) shows the prior version of the file, the squarespace version of the URL (https://xxxxx.squarespace.com/1234) shows the updated file. I suspect that this is due to some broken cache mechanism on the squarespace servers. Any suggestions?
  19. Would like to turn off developer mode for purpose of upgrading Squarespace template to current Squarespace 7.0 or 7.1. Is there an expert who can do live chat or phone with me to help re: steps to do this successfully without losing site data, pages, custom css, code injection, code blocks in pages, etc.?
  20. I know there is quite a bit of material on using sqaure space's API and the extensions platform is pretty new, but is there any API documentation on building an extension for squarespace? i would love to build one if at all possible.
  21. There are several approaches to realize a multilingual site in Squarespace. All of the existing solutions have drawbacks. In the answer, you will find a solution for localization of squarespace sites without drawbacks. 1) Official Squarespace Solution Does not work on all templates. Structural limitation - you only have one navigation level left perlanguage. Language selector menu not very nice. 2) Using multiple squarespace sites with language subdomains You have to pay the Squarespace fee per language3) Using external localization services like localize.js oder bablic.com You have to pay for external services. There are additional resources that have to be downloaded Does SEO work well on these solutions? Did not investigate this. 4) Javascript based on CSS Selectors and page IDs Unflexible when adding pages, JS has to be adapted and grows
  22. Site URL: https://www.bradleyjoyce.com/prints/standard-editions/lost-lake-sunset I am using Wexley template on 7.0 Is it possible to customize the product page template? I've turned on developer mode and pulled the template down via git as was expecting to find editable product pages. I've tried to search extensively through the docs and forums but haven't found any conclusive answers. My goal is to put the variant selector and add to card button above the product description.
  23. I'd like to be able to offer template customization, but I can't find a good place to learn! How did you learn to work with developer mode, what tools do you use, and where would you suggest I go to learn how to make a template from scratch? Thank you! More details: I'm familiar with HTML/CSS/JS but JSON-T, .region, and the other configuration files are new to me. I've been working with VSCode trying to make changes to a trial-version developer-mode site, but after a number of hours I've only been able to follow the super basic tutorial and add some static text to the main page with git push. I'd like to learn how to work with .region files and how to use different .region files on different pages. With that information, I hope I can build a fully-custom website with Squarespace's CMS on top. I've googled it in different ways, but the results are always flooded with Squarespace's WYSIWYG editor tutorials and the few resources that match my search terms are expensive courses that, I assume, don't have detailed instructions I'm looking for.
  24. Site URL: https://llama-shallot-7yz9.squarespace.com I'm getting the standard EACCES: permission denied when I try to run: npm install -g @squarespace/server The squarespace docs direct you to the npm docs here. The npm docs say: However speaking with a friend he said that you actually do need to uninstall npm and Node.js? I'm currently backing up my Mac with time machine, and I'm going to give this a whirl to see if it solves my issue: https://ajaykarwal.com/uninstall-node-and-install-nvm Does anybody have some experience and can shed some light? I'm working on MacOS Big Sur. Thanks in advanced.
  25. Site URL: https://red.org Hi, I have a custom page (built in developer mode) here: https://www.red.org/team-gallery and am trying to add it into an existing index page (built via the Squarespace admin) here: https://www.red.org/meet-our-team (page password: MeetThe(RED)Team) but it's not displaying. Is there no way to have a custom page display as any other page would within na index page? If not, is the reverse possible? To have a custom index page (created via dev mode) contain pages that were created in the Squarespace admin (not created via dev mode)? Thanks, Chris
