    Amazing thank you! We put this code in the Page Header Code Injection area in our two of our 7 blogs advanced editor backend, and worked like a charm.
  2. Thanks

    Tomorrow there's a session that talks about SEO and squarespace with a Q&A (you have to sign up below). I implore everybody to attend and to ask what they're doing about extremely poor Core Web Vitals performance.
    If enough people ask the question then it won't be missed. In my opinion, this session should cover nothing else.
    I'm now seeing a clear drop in rankings and what that leads to (almost immediately)? All of my hard work that I put into my business going down the drain.

    Remove cats and tags insert into  custom css:
    .collection-type-blog article footer {
     .tags,
     .categories {
       display: none;
     }
    }
    Hide date insert in  advanced code injection  header of blog page:
    <style>
          .date {
            display: none;
        }
        </style>

    Thanks for the feedback primal, sounds like you've put in the work to try and clean things up to dial in your core web vitals and still getting the same results...good to know.
    Here is squarespaces response my google search console question - "First I wanted to start by clarifying that Google Search Console, while it is a great resource to use for your site, is not necessarily optimized for analyzing sites built on a CMS (Content Management System) like Squarespace. It's algorithm for detecting inaccuracies that it thinks is incorrect, doesn't necessarily mean that it's a genuine issue on our platform. They use a set formula to apply to a wide variety of different CMS systems. Alas, they don't have a specific algorithm for detecting Squarespace-specific issues. This shouldn't affect your ranking, as it's more about alerting you of ways to improve your site. They're ultimately providing a blanket diagnosis. I'd also like to note that because Google Search Console is a third party tool, it would also be outside of our scope of support to interpret emails like this from Google Search Console. With that said, we do have a guide here that covers some of the errors and emails that you may see: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206543207-Understanding-Google-SEO-emails-and-console-errors"

    My thoughts are that Squarespace needs to take this seriously, or else people may jump ship to another web builder. Since we have absolutely no control over these things to optimize performance, this may push people to start looking elsewhere. Hopefully they are planning on addressing this in a new version of Squarespace, such as 7.2 or 8. It's frustrating because for all of the great features within Squarespace, the beautiful templates and user-friendliness of the platform, there are several areas Squarespace ignores or drops the ball. In the years I've been using the platform, as an example, I don't remember any updates to the Form block functionality, even after other platforms such as TypeForm revolutionized web forms. But Core Web Vitals is the type of "con" to weigh so heavily, with no solution for optimizing performance, it may push even the most ardent supporters of Squarespace to look at other platforms. The first competitor to address this could see a lot of new subscribers, so hopefully it's something Squarespace doesn't just ignore, as there is a huge opportunity for them to steal people away from their competitors, rather than lose them.

    The good news is that Google announced that it is postponing the rollout of the page experience update, specifically the ranking change, from May 2021 to be a gradual rollout that won’t start until mid-June 2021 and won’t be fully rolled out until the end of August.

    After sending a panicky message to SS support I received the below message. Finally they have recognised that this is an issue and it is being treated as a priority.
    I'm still extremely nervous that CWV is going to tank my business from May onwards. My competitors websites are all performing better than mine so SS need to pull something pretty special out of the bag.

    I'm also concerned by this. Thanks for the informative answers here. Hope SS does something about it.

    Although Google is giving us Core Web Vitals stats now, we theoretically have until May 2021 until this starts to affect rankings:

    https://www.searchenginejournal.com/google-core-web-vitals-ranking-signals/387142/
    So for now I'd be surprised if you're being penalised for not hitting the CWV targets.

    It might be worth considering whether there were any significant changes to your content, backlink profile etc. that could have resulted in a dip in rankings? It could also be that your competitors upped their SEO game recently too.

    Another thing might be the fact that mobile-first indexing is due to be complete this month:
    https://www.seroundtable.com/google-mobile-first-indexing-deadline-march-2021-30974.html#:~:text=Google's revised mobile-first indexing,September 2020 to March 2021.

    There have also been a few (unconfirmed) Google algorithm updates lately, which may also be affecting things.
    Loads of variables to consider!

    I do hope Squarespace give us some clarity on the Core Web Vitals issue before May though, as all Squarespace site owners stand to be negatively affected it. Good luck sorting the SEO issues out.
