Does anyone know if it is possible to manually add new customers and orders within Squarespace e-commerce?

I always spend a lot of time on the typography because I am a bit of a type nerd lol!
So for me it is the typography first then the colour palette.

I am the worst designer, so I tried to focus on the functionality of the element more than the look&feel. Analytics heatmaps showed that visitors are more attracted to my Past client's Preview widget on my Plugin page, it presents the snapshot of the live site which will help the client to preview the plugin BEFORE purchasing

I would make sure that every other part of your site is optimised. Do you have well written content that works for your customers. Is your site structure easy to follow and use? All of this will increase engagement, and time on site plus reduce drop offs. This is all important to Google.

    Should you switch platforms?
You can look at other platforms but they all have their pit falls. I used to do Wordpress sites but I got sick of the headaches around security and plugins.  Plus you don't have much of a niche as everyone builds sites on Wordpress so it is hard to stand out from the crowd.
You can still get good results

The top site is a Squarespace site for example. It is content focused and optimised for a good User Experience.
    Hope this all helps 🙂

Managing membership access seems so basic, but still nothing has been done. It is a real world problem, and I feel the SQS team have not been listening or maybe fully understanding what a shortcoming this is commercially. Fiddling around the eye candy edges of the CMS is not what we need right now for our clients. SQS need to read through the 3 pages of feedback here.

I made five new pages today and spent most of the afternoon trying to drag & drop them into a folder, losing them into random folders and trying to find them again!  I hope a solution is found soon!  I'm wondering if deleting test pages and old images to try to lighten the load on our website might help?  Does anyone have any experience about this?   Mandy

I would say good typography is key!
From my perspective there is so much detail you can get into when it comes to assigning your font sizes, colors, and hierarchy. It also looks very professional and creative when done right.

    Totally agree!
I have several sites that rank in the top 5 on Google within their respective market. A big part is getting all of your content, page descriptions etc SEO focused and creating a site that is a good user experience for your customers.

    Hey Paul,
Does this "Squarespace Performance Team" produce release notes when they makes these incremental improvements that globally impact CWVs? Is there a list of enhancements that are currently being targeted?
We too are pretty concerned about our site's performance and ability to rank, but don't want to go through the incredible labor of migrating to another platform if substantial improvements are right-around-the-corner, so to speak.
I'm confident that any transparent plan-of-work regarding performance improvements would go a long way towards alleviating the concerns of others in this forum thread.
Thanks in advance for your reply,
    Justin

Really hope Squarespace can fix this sooner than later. Google SEO has more weight on page experience now and most clients we engaged are aware of the importance of SEO. If they know SS cannot tick the "page experience" box of Google SEO, they will be very reluctant to choose SS although it has tons of other benefits.
It's a huge task for SS tech team since it may require SS to fundamentally change the whole platform code and architecture design. A very talented product leader is needed here, but it's very hard to find as always.
The first step may be to enable WebP and AVIF image format...

There isn't anything that anyone can do to improve the CMVs of an individual Squarespace site but rest assured there are teams in Squarespace who are dedicated to improving the platform's performance. There have been many incremental improvements and more will come. And as the platform is managed centrally, you won't need to make any changes to see these improvements; they'll filter through automatically.

I have to add to the above comment and request for SquareSpace to improve the function for members' login. Do you think SquareSpace development team look at the forum here?
We created the website for condominium residents and bought the Members Area to provide info for residents. After all the pages were created, we realized that the default LOGIN can't prevent non-residents from creating accounts and getting access to private documents.
I have been on the support email for more than 24 hours with several emails going back and forth, no answers were given to satisfactory. First I was told to toggle off the LOGIN nav on the header and create a page with passwords. I can accept an alternative route but once toggle off, the ACCOUNT nav in the members' area is missing, which includes missing the ability to update email, passwords etc., and missing the SIGN OUT button too.

I currently have to clients interested in member areas and both want the ability to self manage members.
I have contacted Squarespace support and they have said: Our development team hasn't indicated whether they'll be making any changes to this, but we do receive requests like this pretty often, and I definitely understand that it'd be helpful and logical to have this option available on our platform. With this being the case, I've already submitted your feedback directly to our development team on your behalf. While we can't guarantee implementation of all requested features, your feedback will genuinely be reviewed by our product managers.
I'm not sure what that means, doesn't sound like it is on the roadmap in any form.
The Support team recommended setting up a password protected page that contains the Member area signup form. My client can then pass this page and password on to new clients for them to signup themselves.
Sounds like it will work but is not ideal. I will have to tell this to both clients and let them know this will probably not be changing. I will also have to suggest we look at Member space as an option.
I hate doing this to clients when I try so hard to sell Squarespace as Everything to sell anything and then have to explain this is not the case.

I am extremely interested in any site improvements we can get.
I have mentioned it a few times in the past but it does not seem to go past this level within Circle as far as I am aware.
I am also unaware of any sort of Squarespace public roadmap so I am unsure if this is being looked into by the development team or not.
    Anyone else got any updates?

Resurrecting this thread as all of these issues still apply and have not been fixed.

How is Squarespace expecting to attract/ retain people with this glacially slow, antiquated set up. My "contact" page even gets a red rating on Pagespeed Insights and it is just a small block of text.

I contacted SS customer service a few days ago and they were acting mystified by the whole issue. Does anyone have any updates? Does moving to 7.1 help with speeds at all? If I have to completely rebuild my website, perhaps I am better off going to a completely different service...

A tip for those just getting started.
Many folks focus on the design of their site first. It's natural. You want to make a pretty site to sell your product(s). Then they move onto the technical backside of payment processing and such.
I suggest flip that around! Exercise the technical backend bits first! Understand how the orders flow through the system. Run test orders where possible and real orders with an amount of a $1.00.
Get to know the flow from the customer perspective and the merchant perspective.
Once you have a better understanding of the backend proceed with developing the rest of your site.
