Can digital products be used to sell services?

I am investigating a similar situation. If the client/potential customer books through Acuity, there is no addition fee, but if they purchase a general 1 hour session without scheduling, I get charged the 9% digital product fee?!? Or am I not configuring this correctly? I realize I can subscribe to the digital products add-on but that is just ANOTHER expense. Trying to figure out how this all works....
