If you use the update tool to move to 7.1 you can do a limited amount of changes to the design without it being live, but in my experience it's not enough to get a website "launch ready", so you would need to build in some down time or accept a transition period as you update.
The procedure before having this tool was to redesign the website from scratch on a clean slate and then transfer over the domain when you were finished but this is a lengthy process and you do lose analytics and have to set up any store items and the sales tools again. 
You can always test this yourself by duplicating your website and trying the update tool before you do it on your live website.

Getting into developer mode to utilize that documentation is typically beyond the scope of the forum. I certainly wouldn't recommend it unless you are an experienced developer.

I have been testing email campaigns and setting it up for my client. The emails .csv files were incorrect so I had to delete the mailing lists. I have found the profiles are still there and need to be deleted, I want the account to be clean before I re-import all the correct lists. It seems you can't delete profiles? but that makes no sense, you must be able to otherwise why would anyone use this option. Can anyone help advise me?

The more I use Squarespace, the more I liken it to a beautiful woman with no brains. Stop coming out with new stuff and fix everything that is broken, because there is a LOT that is broken.

Someone showed me this thread and it makes sense now as the site was in trial mode.

Yes it's possible using summary blocks. And these 2 plugins from SquareWebsites. 
1. Universal Filter: This will give you the categories and filtering function
2. Lazy summaries: This will give you the unlimited scroll

Would access to the RSS feed or a JSON version of your blog help get you closer to a solution? For a JSON version of a page you can add ?format=json-pretty or ?format=json to the URL. A regular page will not return the content of the page via this format.

Hi, my name is Shereese and I am currently starting a safe haven for those who feel unheard, discarded, and unaccepted. Based on my own experience and the trials I had to face mentally, my goal is to inspire, encourage, and help boost the confidence in those that feel like they are the "underdogs" of society.
I would like to do this by sharing what I've learned and how making the change mentally has finally given me a sense of happiness without the outside additives. I want to show those that have given up on themselves and the world that by going within and naming their truth they will be able to purge, heal, and discover their most truest them or "their most unicorn selves."
It's not a perfect formula but we are human and there is no such thing as human perfection, we are all perfectly, imperfect.
