SOLUTION: For me I found that going to Chrome and doing this worked - previously I was on Safari and encountering the exact same issues. Previously I could not put the TXT into Squarespace at all, but now it has gone on there as a custom record. I then got the Google '48 hours' red text message briefly, but after a few seconds I was able to successfully authenticate.
