Gallery - Horizontal vs Vertical grid image

Hello, I use the Hayden template with a grid gallery of my portfolio. I would prefer to have the horizontal images be shown larger than the vertical. Currently, the short side of the vertical images equal the long side of the horizontal so I'd like the long sides of both horizontal and vertical images to be equal (therefore making the vertical take up less space).

Is there a code that would fix this? I've attached an example that the Minetta template uses. Thanks for your input!
