Sounds like you just want to change the font style for the site navigation. You can do this by going into the Site Styles (the icon that looks like a paint brush on the top right. Then select Fonts -> Assign Styles and locate "Site Navigation." From there you can customize the font style and increase the weight of the font. -

Have you tried moving the !important tag to the end. I think it may need to be right before the terminating semi-colon.
