  1. https://mis.haus/ Hello, Everyone! I would love to hear what you guys think about my website. Please tell me any little comment you may have, whether it be about the design, the writings within, or the technical glitches—literally anything you want to say! Constructive feedback is very welcome, but I'll appreciate any comments at all. I treat this website as more of my personal corner of the massive web. My poems, articles about poetry and the false claims of Holocaust denialism, and even experiments with AI programs litter this place. Also, please excuse the primitive state of my "Haus Assistant." It needs a lot of work done on it to make it seamless, I know. You're supposed to be able to chat with it, but I haven't optimized and trained it enough yet; it's basically just a linear, point-and-click text tour of what the site's about. This is my first live website, and I really wanted to make it somewhat "unique." A lot of the content is very tongue-in-cheek and not intended to be too professional or "sterile." I initially had plans to make it more tuned towards the neo-brutalist web design philosophy, but I got frustrated with the technicalities, so I gave up somewhere along the way and just focused on the content. I'm also sticking to the monochrome theme because it helps with my eyes, and I'm sure it helps a lot of other people too. Fun fact: my site heavily uses the Adobe Caslon Pro font, which is what the New Yorker Magazine uses for its printed issues. Does anyone know if I need to license this font? I don't make any money from this site nor is it associated with a registered company, so I've always assumed that I didn’t need to. I do have a paid subscription for Adobe Fonts, though. This site also has very heavy CSS tweaks on the homepage, so let me know if you encounter any glitches or lag. I'm sure that the IBM Watson Assistant and moderate amounts of Javascripting and custom CSS aren't helping the speed at all either. I think it normally gets a performance score of 50% to 65% in Google PageSpeed Insights. Accessibility, best practices, and SEO are all perfect, though. I would make an effort to boost that performance score higher, but that would require me to take some elements out that I'm not ready to let go of yet (and also because I'm not an expert on web design). One thing that does bother me a little is the juxtaposition between the Holocaust writings I have and the overall non-seriousness/whimsicality of the rest of the writings on my site. Anyone else feeling like I'm disrespecting the legacy of the Holocaust? I'm not too worried about SEO, analytics, and all that, but I would like more people to visit my site. How would I go about advertising something like this? Any suggestions would be great! Thanks in advance, John https://mis.haus/
  2. Infinite is one of my favorite games! It's pretty cool how you worked on the UI, and I still vividly remember being really impressed about how the main menu took the player around the shopping plaza. The time-appropriate UI design also helped me immerse myself in the game's environment a lot more. Nice job! Your website is quite nice as well because it provides pertinent information at a first glance. I know your name is on the URL already, but you should consider making your name more prominent on the landing page, as it is the standard in a lot of portfolios. Maybe change the site header from "Full-Stack Designer" to your name? This might be something you're a lot more knowledgeable about, so I can't press the subject too much. The scrollbar or progress bar at the top of the page is a little distracting since it made me think that the page was loading. Just a little nitpick. Overall, the presentation is nice. I like how the background changes on the homepage as you hover over the projects you worked on. Towards the bottom on the homepage in the "Featured Case Studies" section, the text overlaid on the clickable pictures doesn't stand out too well and looks a little cluttered. The navigation around your site is effortless, and everything is easy to find. Your site loads very quickly as well. Oh, and props for using lazy loading! I use it on my site as well for pages that require the visitor to scroll down a lot, and it makes everything seem more streamlined and efficient. It looks better too, in my opinion. There's a very good balance between the text and example videos and pictures for the entries in your portfolio, so there's nothing to worry about there.
  3. I personally know a couple of friends who were copywriters, and I also was a copywriter myself a few years back. I didn't have a website for my services, but my friends' websites had very bold, in-your-face, almost overly aggressive designs for their landing page. They mainly had poetry and literary magazines as clients, which was kind of an ironic twist. I really like how clean your template looks, but it looks more like a homepage for a blog or something similar. Just my two cents, though. There's probably a copywriter out there looking for a more understated and clean aesthetic. More than anything, a copywriter's website really should represent what type of design ethics they have. Still a nice template, though. If I could change one thing, it would be to give the homepage more room to show off the copywriter's visual works and designs. Great job!
  4. I'm speaking from a normal person's perspective here, and I have to say how cool it is that you cleanly incorporated vintage aesthetics with Squarepace's "shiny modern" design. The color palette is pleasant to look at, and it enhances your product pictures quite well. It's a small detail, but I really liked how the permanent site header's transparent background had a bit of blur to it. I don't know why that's something that stood out to me, but it's awesome. Cool site! Good luck on your endeavors.
  5. Site URL: https://www.gwern.net/ https://www.gwern.net/ This site has a really cool feature where hovering over an article's link opens up a text box that shows a small preview of what the full article is like. I'm wondering if there's a way to do this with Squarespace, or if there's a third-party plugin maker like https://elfsight.com/ that can give you the code to do so. I'm subscribed to Elfsight, but they don't have this widget, unfortunately. My personal site is https://mis.haus/ password: MISNOMER Thanks for any help!
