Do not see "Add a Section" when I hover on a page

This is so frustrating. I've looked at many videos, such as this one from Squarespace, and I cannot do as the video shows. First off, I cannot even get the small "Edit" link at the top left of the page to come up to even begin editing the page--all I have is the ability to edit some elements, like title, navigation, etc.

I am new to Squarespace and am having trouble right from the start. I see many videos that show how to add a section: go to a page, click Edit, and then hover your cursor in places until "Add a Section" comes up. I hover around and that never comes up. What's the trick?
