  1. No, the problem is that our libraries have become absurdly bloated and cluttered with old, unwanted, obsolete, and placeholder images for no reason beyond "Squarespace doesn't want to implement basic functionality in how we manage our images." It's genuinely infuriating. There is no excuse for not having a "delete" function in 2022. None. To say its inclusion is common sense would be an insult to common sense. If I asked my grandmother to design a CMO, she would know to include a "delete" function. And even if, somehow, Squarespace managed to make $621 million dollars without ever considering the most obvious thing in existence, it has roughly six dozen people a week in its forums asking for a "delete" function. But you know what's most insulting? The condescending belief that "Uhhhhh, yeah, I guess we'll, like, hire some NASA engineers and begin researching if this is possible" is an acceptable response. Really Squarespace? You're "looking into it"? For over two years? How gullible and naïve do you think we are? To leave it out is pure sloppiness and laziness, nothing more. But to blow us off with "we'll look into it" as if we just demanded the impossible is beyond patronizing to our intelligence.
  2. Site URL: https://www.aboydandhisblog.com This is a weird one. A couple days ago, I purchased some CSS code and, being a novice, made a duplicate site to experiment on so I wouldn't mess up my existing site. For some reason, the act of doing this changed my H1 font from League Spartan, which I use in all my headings, to...something else. H2, H3, and H4 were totally unaffected. Here's the CSS as it exists now: I'm very new to this, so my first thought was the "src: url" was missing, and if I pasted the source URLs of the fonts back in, that might fix it. But when I did, nothing happened: For reference, here's how my H1 looks: And here's how it should look, using my H2 and H3's: So my questions are pretty straightforward: 1) How could duplicating a site change the original site's coding? 2) How can I fix this so my H1 goes back to displaying the correct font?
  3. Site URL: https://www.aboydandhisblog.com I'm in the process of setting up a hybrid personal site/blog that largely exists to promote my services as a freelance writer/editor/tutor/consultant, and a few days ago I purchased this code from CodeCanyon: (https://codecanyon.net/item/web-elements-services-snippets/19227593). However, getting it to work has proven more complicated than expected. I'm a novice to coding and web design, but I've done a lot of reading and am not totally ignorant. I understand the basic concepts of CSS, Javascript, HTML, code injections at various levels, etc. I know that Code Blocks are weird in that they're HTML-only and you have to wrap JS and CSS in <script> and <style> tags, respectively. 1) What confuses me, as a beginner, is knowing which level to inject which elements. For example, does the CSS that creates the boxes themselves go in a Code Block in the site itself, or do I put it in the site-wide "Designs-->Custom CSS"? Same with the JS: Do I put it in a Code Block, or "Setting--> Advanced-->Code Injection" and put it in the HTML? There's just so many different files spread across so many different locations. Some require me to copy and paste the whole code; others ask me to only pull out a snippet. It's not always clear which is which. Describing this problem is a little awkward because I'm not sure if I'm legally allowed to show the code itself, but I think it's okay to show the basic file structures themselves to give you an idea of how this is structured: 2) Another thing I find confusing is what I'm supposed to do with the HTML file. Its contents are identical to what you can find on its Preview Page here: (http://preview.codecanyon.net/item/web-elements-services-snippets/full_screen_preview/19227593?_ga=2.13092223.998479729.1644952873-112767015.1644952873) Am I supposed to Inspect its source code, pull out what's relevant, and paste it somewhere? If so, where? (i.e. at the Site Level or the Block Level?) Or am I supposed to basically use the index.html file as my framework, put all the relevant CSS and JS inside it, and then just delete everything I don't want? 3) Then there's the fonts. I honestly have no idea where they go, or if I need all of them or only some. The ReadMe is in mostly broken English, but he provided a block of legible HTML that he said was important (which I won't share because it's probably proprietary) and three links he said I needed to paste: 4) Again, what's "the HTML page"? Isn't every page HTML? Does he mean the index.html page? Anyway, thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to read and respond to this. I'm doing my best to educate myself and avoid annoying more experienced people with dumb questions, but sometimes you just need a straight answer, you know?
  4. Site URL: https://www.aboydandhisblog.com (Note: site is not yet live) I'm creating a site to advertise my services as a freelance writer, but because I have a background in photography and thousands of beautiful pictures from around the world, my site is going to be more visual than most. Part of this vision involves the use of highly specific background images. This isn't a problem on desktop. However, on mobile, it seems as if no matter what I do, when I upload an image, it's unworkably massive, zoomed in to the point of incoherency. I've tried using lower-resolution images, cropping them in Canva, cropping them in Squarespace, and all that happens is Squarespace zooms in further on the image, making it even more incomprehensible. Squarespace desperately needs a "zoom" function for its images. (And the ability to delete files; my library is now clogged with all my unsuccessful attempts to upload an image that would fit.) But until then, does anyone know of a workaround? I'm willing to perform a code injection if necessary. Thanks in advance, Your pal, LAVATORR
