Shaun_mav reacted to Emotive.ltd in Checkout without payment
Hi All,
I am sure this has been covered before, but its become a blocker for me recommending Squarespace to potential clients.
Their is a need for have a product list with a normal ( current SQ flow ) checkout flow, but when completing processing we only take the customers details, and do not process the customers payments details.
The reason for this is a number of companies I work with are of a medium size and do not fit into a typical product ecoms model.
some of the reasons is they do B2B, or they have to do manufacturing and install before sending the final quote or they using external payment methods that SQ does not support like finical agreements.
- Car Companies
- Whole Sellers
- Windows and Door Companies
- Services
- Made to Order
And many many more.... who want to have a web offering, and take orders but not take payments.
They need the following information
- Product Details
- Product Quantity
- Customer Contact Information
- Business Contact Information
Then the ability to invoice but that can be done off platform.
So is their a solution for this...

Shaun_mav got a reaction from crabcakes in SS 7.1 fluid engine - at and below 749 pixels wide website "explodes", can this be fixed?
I just revisited the mobile site... it must have been a SS bug in Fluid Engine when i first tried it... where changing the website in mobile view affected the desktop view. I've managed to make some progress and fixes that work without affecting the desktop/tablet version... or so it seems.
I will explore more, thank you for the prompt to revisit....

Yes, I am using Fluid Engine. When I edit it mobile view it also changes my desktop version, which is not what I want, it doesn't make sense.
Perhaps I am not understanding what you mean by reorder...
Irrespective of this, there are huge gaps, there is no resemblance between the desktop/tablet version, so >449 pixels and the site when 449 pixels or less, the layout completely changes, elements do not appear as they are supposed to - they become twice the size or shrink dramatically, just a huge mess. I may certainly be doing something wrong, what remains to be uncovered, if that be the case.

Site URL: https://worksbyshaun.com/home-new
Hello,
I am reworking my home page and having significant issues with the page once you shrink it to less than 750 pixels wide, the entire homepage "explodes", the only way I can explain it. Graphics shift all over the page, nothing resembles what the page should look like layout wise.
Please see the two screen grabs below. I do not believe that I am alone with issues like this and would greatly appreciate some direction on how I may resolve this...
Thank you so much for your help.
Website at 750px wide, as it should look...
Broken/exploded website at 749 pixels wide...

Shaun_mav reacted to tuanphan in SS 7.1 - how to redirect only mobile devices to custom URL (duplicated desktop home page formatted for mobile devices only - fluid engine)
#1. Add this to Page Header
<script type="text/javascript"> if (screen.width <= 767) { document.location = "https://google.com"; } </script> The code will redirect page to new url (you can replace google.com with new mobile page url) when users on mobile.
#2. Add to Page Header
<meta name="robots" content="noindex" />

Shaun_mav got a reaction from ilseS in SS 7.1 - how to redirect only mobile devices to custom URL (duplicated desktop home page formatted for mobile devices only - fluid engine)
Site URL: http://worksbyshaun.com
Hello and thank you for your help....
I am having to make a duplicate of my HOME page (WIP - redoing it using Fluid Engine), so it can be edited specifically for mobile devices, because currently there is one huge layout mess of content that appears on any mobile device - it does not resemeble the desktop version at all. Also, If you edit the desktop page in the mobile view and change anything to work on mobile, then it completely messes up the desktop page layout, extremely frustrating.
To get around this, I will create a duplicate of my new HOME page, and change the URL to http://worksbyshaun.com/mobile. Then I will edit this page so it works only on a mobile device. This way the edits won't mess up my main desktop HOME page version.
I am leaving the rest of my website as is, with the classic editor layouts, as these work on mobile devices. It's the new Fluid Engine that completely breaks anything on a mobile device. I need some of the new features present in Fluid Engine just for my new HOME page, hence why this workaround.
What custom code would I add to the "Advanced" default (desktop) HOME page section to accomplish this? Something like this....?
@media (max-width:768px){http://worksbyshaun/mobile {display:none!important}}
Also, I wish to hide this custom mobile HOME page from Google search engines, as it's just a duplicate. Will this cause any indexing issues with my main desktop site and Google search engine? I don't want to mess with my sites main landing page and Google searches.
Many thanks for your help.

Shaun_mav reacted to JackieG in How can I take orders without taking payment?
I too need to take customer orders without taking payment online. Our website is for a Private Members Club where we sell drinks to customers. We are being forced to have table service and would like customers to be able to place an order from their phone on the website and pay when we deliver to their table, however we cannot do this without requesting a payment option.
Come on it must be possible to bypass this option? Not sure why I should pay for add ons or extensions for something that you have decided to hard code in to the commerce function! Not everyone takes online payments for the products or services they sell. What can I do as I need to set this up by tomorrow.
Website is www.thewhitfieldclub.co.uk

THIS IS EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING.
Squarespace makes it pretty impossible to set up a checkout process for offline payments, unless you like imperfect workarounds. Either Squarespace is simply unaware of such a need (seems unlikely) or their business model is beholden to the payment processors (they probably get a cut off the transaction back from the processor) - the suppression of such a basic feature is otherwise inexplicable.
I am venting my frustration here, because I like Squarespace, and would like them to fix this. In comparison -
Ecwid - extremely easy to use, great features set, design ethos - Soviet housing block utilitarian;
Shopify - works well except for the usurious toll they take on every transaction, including offline
WordPress/WooCommerce - the Rube Goldberg site builder with a Dewey Decimal System inspired admin dashboard
Why do I like Squarespace - in one word - design. Simple to use admin dashboard that does not hurt my eye or sensitivities, as well as outstanding website design. Where does Squarespace fall short - basic features critical to commerce such as offline checkout (and other finer customisation details, but lets stick to offline checkout today).
CURRENT WORKAROUNDS FOR OFFLINE CHECKOUT
- Create a 100% Discount Code so customers can checkout without a card. Issue - you are literally offering the customer a 100% discount since you can't even change the words (automatic description "Save 100% on any order" appears at checkout and in order conf email)
- Wishlist extension . Issue - the faq says this substitutes the checkout process, i.e., you cannot have some customers adding to Wishlist and others checking out with carded payments. This solution would be great for those whose entire business is offline but for others who have a mixed customer base (some with credit cards, some debit cards, some paying through bank transfers, others at store) this does not seem to be the solution
- Square for Offline - this is not available outside the USA! It is 2020, and the rest of the world is not so shabby as to be ignored
Squarespace should rightly be proud about its design, and its Values , one of which is Simplify. Surely offering a simple solution to add Offline checkout is possible and long overdue? Anthony Casalena, are you listening, because no one else at Squarespace apparently is.

Any news on this?
I am also experiencing same issue. No time for workarounds. My client needs offline payments without registration needed. I will probably consider other platforms 😔

Struggling hard with this same issue!
Working on a client site that has been a member of Squarespace before they hired me and it pains me to have to tell them they are paying for a service that doesn't fulfill their needs.
All the workarounds make for bad user experience. Hoping for a solution soon!

Bump
I can't offer the 100% discount code because I also have other codes to offer on my products.
The more I use squarespace, the more I am getting really fustrated on the lack of shipping, local delivery and store options. It's lacking and we're in 2022! Covid should have the squarespace team implement better options!

You can adjust the spacing by adding some CSS to Design > Custom CSS.
The area on your screenshot labelled 6px is the padding below the Product Item Nav area, and can be adjusted with this:
@media screen and (min-width: 768px) { .ProductItem-nav { padding-bottom: 6px; } } The area you labelled 14 pixels is the padding above the Product Item Details area, and can be adjusted with this:
@media screen and (min-width: 768px) { .tweak-product-basic-item-content-alignment-top .ProductItem-details { padding-top: 6px; } }

Shaun_mav reacted to paul2009 in Shop product page on mobile device - Quantity field does not scale + text description wraps back onto itself vs next line
The Quantity box issue is because of Custom CSS you have added. It looks like you may have set the input width in newsletter blocks to 375px. Unfortunately this will affect all inputs and should be removed or modified.
The Product Description uses the H1 setting where the line height is currently set to 0em, causing it to wrap on the same line. If you change this in site styles, it should correct it. Alternatively, this CSS should do the same thing:
.collection-type-products .ProductItem-details h1.ProductItem-details-title { line-height: 1.3em; } Did this help? Please give feedback by clicking an icon below ⬇️

Shaun_mav reacted to Beyondspace in How to adjust the padding around specific text headings - seems like default is 17px.....
You can try setting the padding value for this block by adding to Home > Design > Custom Css
#block-yui_3_17_2_1_1639955223544_4502 { padding-bottom: 0; padding-top: 0; } Let me know how it works on your site

Hello Paul,
I cannot thank you enough again for your help, so grateful!
Everything is now working as it should be, wonderful stuff! I've learned much. Your previous code help allowed me to modify the newsletter CSS so it only affected the desktop version, 375px, leaving mobile untouched - "@media screen and (min-width: 768px)"
Warm wishes, Shaun
