I founded a coworking space called Mallee Rising in Swan Hill, rural Victoria, Australia in 2017. It is a rural community around 4 hours inland from Melbourne and the epicentre of Australia's stone fruit, almond and olive production as well as a lot of cereal farming.
I opened Mallee Rising in early 2017 and have gone into temporary hibernation during both Vic 2020 lock downs.
I realised early that there was no product/market fit for coworking in a country town of 10,000 people but quickly realised that a hub plays an important economic and community development function in a rural town.
Self funded, I spend a lot of time supporting people who want to start a new business and upskilling existing businesses to transition to the digital economy.
My goal is to develop an ecosystem that supports entrepreneurs and innovators, to develop entrepreneurial behaviour and STEM skills in our youth for the jobs of the future, and promote innovative use of tech in agriculture and food production.
