How do I adjust aspect ratios in products to be both horizontal and vertical

Site URL: http://brittsypetportraits.com How can I adjust products to display in their appropriate aspect ratio? My paintings are horizontal, vertical or square. I tried custom code mentioned by someone else but it does not work. Not sure what I’m doing wrong! I don’t know anything about code but I tried what someone on forum said. Please help! Britt
