Even though I loved the templates, I would have never selected Squarespace knowing that I cannot manage and delete my own photos. I would transfer my site right now, if it weren't for the 60 day lock. I'm in a art business class with almost 1000 students. I will post this fact everywhere so the other artists, creatives, designers, etc., will know.

I'm looking into options for moving my photography site from Wordpress, and thought Squarespace was the answer to all my problems. But this is an absolute deal breaker. I just can't believe that this basic functionality isn't available.

Yep, have to agree with all of the statements above and am truly disappointed in SS for not having any way to manage images or an image library.  I just signed up for this service yesterday after messing around with SS a few days and am in the process of moving an old site on WP to this.  Now I am seriously considering cancelling this subscription and going back to WP.

Everyone should report it to make it known that this is an issue for a lot of users. Then maybe they will do something about it.

+1 to everything here. give the users control over all the media on the site!
furthermore, when I run Google Speed Insights, there seem to be old images dragging down the rating that aren't even used anymore. But I cannot delete them because there's no way to access that image

Please add image library feature - it's insane to have to scroll through every image that has ever been uploaded - designers use a lot of test images!!!!!

Same thing with me building templates! I've started to play around.. and god I do not want the play around images in there! They'd think "geez, what is this"
I had contacted them before my comment and they said they get lots of requests but they're adding it to the list and passing it on.
Makes you question how they've gone this long without that feature.. mind boggling!
    Hopefully it's our Christmas treat!

Not super helpful but it is flagged by Dev teams. Hopefully they fix it soon, it's a fairly big oops if you ask me (and I have over 20 years experience in Enterprise SW QA).

Yes. This is super important. I just built a website for a client which I started by duplicating a site I did for another client. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT hand it off with the first client's custom photography saved in the imported images.
So I have to build the whole site over from scratch???
OMG. Hours and hours of redundant work are ahead.
    This is not ok.

Definitely following this thread. I feel this is my biggest frustration with Squarespace. Especially seeing there is a lot of trial and error with image sizing so could result in multiple uploads.
I've been looking to see if they have "vote this feature" in anywhere like other platforms do. Because I would press is a million times!

Same here! Working on a client website and decided to try Squarespace versus my Wordpress resource. Uploaded a ton of FPOS and went to clean out the image library and learned that you can't delete imported images. WTF? Who in the world thought this was a good idea? HUGE FAIL! Without that function I will never use SquareSpace for another client website again. This client now has a TON of images that will never be used.

Hey! I'm working on a site and I played around the options (newest version of Squarespace) a lot. This uploaded the "dummy-images" on the site every time and now when browsing uploaded images it is hard to find the relevant pics.  How do I manage the images uploaded to the site? I'd really like to remove all of the unused images.

I'm following this thread too and am surprised it hasn't been addressed yet. I haven't read through all of the posts so I may be bringing up a redundant point, but my hope is to strengthen the argument for improving the asset management on Squarespace websites.
I am a freelance designer whose entire web design service offering is based on selling Squarespace websites for their ease of updating once I hand the websites off to my clients. When I design a website, I design, upload and test many iterations of the same images / graphics, meaning there are a handful of similar looking images in the media library once I finally land on the best one.
This becomes an issue when I finally hand off the website to my client. If they ever need to make an update in the future or swap out the proper images, it makes this process more difficult for them, as they have to wade through many similar looking image files and may select the wrong file in the process.
Allowing me the option to delete these incorrect image assets and organizing the library prior to handing off the website to my client will ensure a better website design long-term. This helps make both myself and Squarespace look better by ensuring quality graphics are always being used.

Also, the option to add multiple images and to add to a gallery section. At the moment you can only ass 1 photo at the time.
Second, the option to change  the file name (alt text) to improve  SEO. at the moment you can only change  the description of the image, not the file name. This is super important for SEO optimisation.
I hope you will add this to your update

I can see that the image search option seems to have changed a bit since yesterday, looks new and I was super excited to see if you can simply delete images but it still appears to not have that feature, seems super odd to have provided that area a design refresh and leave out a widely requested item such as deleting image?......I feel like when you click on the 3 dots to the right, instead of image info, it would be great to be able to rename, duplicate and/or delete an image.

Couldn't agree more, it's ludicrous that in 2021 you can't manage or download your files. Total joke!
