KMoreno reacted to kgrahamsb in Can I modify the dropdown menu code for accessibility?
Hi there,
Our business has been threatened with a lawsuit unless we upgrade our website to W3C standards for ADA compliance. I have managed to make all of the fixes required thus far via my limited coding skills or work arounds. I also downloaded a great (and free!) accessibility widget that seems to offer a lot of nice functionality. However, the dropdown menus in my product pages still can not be read by an e-reader and I can not figure out how or where to add custom code to modify them. I have found the code required but despite having gone into developer mode, I don't see where to inject this code in order to modify the drop downs and make them compliant. Has anyone else done this or can they point me to the right place? Or is this simply not doable on the Squarespace platform? Any thoughts or advice are welcome.

@Jolsonphotography Hey Josh, good on you for sharing and helping others to improve the accessibility of their websites 🙂.
For info, you can improve this further by placing all the querySelector statements within just one OnInit function, rather than two (or more). It won’t change what it does, but it will be more efficient.

Hey John,
I've wrote up a short script that should solve your problem, I've included it in this blog post I wrote explaining how to solve the accessibility button issue: https://jolsonweddings.com/education/squarespace-buttons-accessible-name
In short, you just have to add some extra HTML to your footer to give the buttons Aria-labels.
Good luck!

KMoreno reacted to paul2009 in How to have the member area 'invitation only'
Unfortunately, this isn’t possible with Member Areas because no ‘manual approval’ feature exists. Anyone will be able to sign-up by visiting the site and using a specific url slug - no matter what you do!
I’ve posted about this a number of times because it makes this feature totally unsuitable for around three-quarters 75% of situations where memberships are required, including bodies, societies and clubs, but Squarespace are not listening and do not seem to grasp how important this is.
I recommend you (and others reading this!) log a feature request with Squarespace. You can reach out to them here. I also recommend ‘liking’ and ‘voting up’ the questions about this, to raise the profile of this limitation. Here are some similar threads about this:

Hmm, could you maybe password protect the page and send people the password once approved?

Hello, I am wanting my members to have to apply and be approved to get the log in information. I can hide the account button from the public pages and just have the 'creating your account' like as something we send out to people once they are approved.
However, I would like to be able to have the account log in button on public pages so that the approved customers do not have to click the email link everything they log in. The issue with this is that when you click on the account log in button, there is a button to 'create your account' on the pop up that comes up.
