Tiny_Coast reacted to paul2009 in Background color change with scroll fall 2022 update
As usual, this isn't a new feature 🙂. It's the Squarespace designers showing off what they can do with the Developer Platform. They change the data-section-index of the section background div as the user scrolls through the sections. Each data-section-index is configured with a different background-color in CSS (yellow, blue and green) and there's a CSS transition to smooth the colour change.
You don't need to use Developer Mode to do this, but you'll need to know some JavaScript and CSS. The exact code will vary according to the page size, colours and so on, but you'd typically use the same principles as described above.

We’ve been collecting updates all month. Here’s everything that happened at Squarespace in November!  Which updates are you most excited about?
    Commerce
    Introducing the Order Status page
Your customers can now keep track of their orders from a new order status page, which updates automatically when you change the order’s fulfillment status. Previously, customers could reference their order information in their confirmation email, but they couldn’t check for changes within Squarespace.
Learn more about the Order Status page.
Manage key features of Member Areas in the Membership panel
We added a Memberships panel to the Commerce area of your site so you can manage key features for your site’s members-only areas from a central location. Before this, these features were only available in the Member Areas panel.
Learn more about the Membership panel.
Purchase shipping labels from the Squarespace app
You can now buy and print shipping labels from the Squarespace App. Previously, you could only do this on the computer.
Learn more about purchasing shipping labels on the iOS app.
    Email Campaigns
Woo your mailing list with seasonal templates
Want to dazzle your audience with a beautiful email campaign? We’ve added new seasonal templates you can use to create an eye-catching, traffic-driving campaign.
Check out the seasonal templates Marketing > Email Campaigns by clicking Create.
    Google Workspace
New plan option alert: the Business Standard plan
In addition to Google’s Business Starter plan, we now support the Business Standard plan when you sign up for Google Workspace from your Squarespace site. The Business Standard plan offers 2TB of cloud storage per user and some other features you may find helpful.
Learn more about Squarespace’s integration with Google Workspace and the Business Standard plan.
    Squarespace Scheduling
    Admin calendar redesign
We redesigned the Scheduling Calendar page to give it a more streamlined look. Everything functions the same, but you’ll notice some UI changes, like the New and Class buttons being consolidated under an Add New button and new dropdown filters.
Learn more about the Scheduling calendars.
    Unfold Bio Sites
Drive revenue from your Bio Site with PayPal
In addition to Stripe, you can now accept PayPal for tips and crowdfunding in your Bio Site.
Learn more about accepting payments on Bio Sites.
Showcase your NFTs on your Unfold Bio Site
Connect your crypto wallet to Unfold to display your NFT collection right on your Bio Site with the new Collectible Storefront section.
Learn more about setting up the Collectible Storefront section in your Bio Site.
    Websites and domains
Create eye-catching content with text highlights
The text toolbar just got a new tool! You can now choose between 11 text highlights to make your text stand out and add even more flare to your content.
Learn more about text highlights. We’d love to see what you create with text highlights! Show off your site on this post.
    Internationalization: Fluid Engine
Fluid Engine is now available to sites in our fully supported languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish. The initial launch of Fluid Engine was only available to English sites, so we’re thrilled about this development.
    Learn more about Fluid Engine.
    Internationalization: Regional formatting preview
We added a preview of how dates, times, and currencies display on your Squarespace site in the Language & region panel based on your chosen language. Prior to this, you had to change the language and look in relevant areas on your site to see those.
Learn more about changing your site’s language settings.
    Style your social icons
Social icons in 7.1 headers and social links blocks now have the option to add borders with new styling options. You can add a personal touch to those icons to help them stand out on your site.

We've implemented a free gift wrapping option in the checkout with the possibility to write a custom message. We did it because many people won't have the possibility to give presents in person this year (in Italy at least).
We said our gift options were free for the occasion, but to tell the truth it is the only way to do that as in Squarespace it's impossible to implement paid add-ons in the checkout.
We changed our "Sale" label to "Black Friday" for the black friday sale week and we colored it black. That's mainly it, all with some Mailchimp newsletters

Tiny_Coast got a reaction from Zmudzinski in Calls to Action- where and how?
I think before getting into the language you want to use for your call to action, it is best to start with the goal(s) of your page. What is your intention for this page - what do you want people to do next? When you stop and think about how someone is moving through your website, and the actions you'd like them to take, the position of you CTAs along with supporting text becomes much clearer.
From there I think you can get into a bit more experimentation around actual copy, using action oriented text, colour, urgency and so on.

Tiny_Coast got a reaction from CEJG in Expanding into new marketing channels in 2022
When it comes to expanding into new channels, I think it can be very helpful to evaluate your short and long term website / digital marketing goals.
SEO and content strategy can be a long game, so if you are looking for leads or sales in the more immediate future, you may wan to invest your time and resources into paid ads, while you simultaneously work on growing your discoverability in search engines.
Once you define your short and long term goals, it can help to do a digital marketing SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) to prioritize your marketing efforts.
    Examples:
How well do you rank in search engines?
How expensive are paid ads in your industry? (can you acquire customers at a reasonable cost of conversion?)
Do you have a good social following on all / some channels? (Can you engage these channels. Does a certain type of content perform well? Would it be valuable to expand this type of content to different channels (ie tik tok)
Is your conversion rate high? (if you increase your traffic, and maintain your conversion rate, could this be very profitable for you?)
Is your traffic great but conversion rate low? (could you improve your UX / messaging and increase your conversion rate)
Once you determine opportunities you'll be able to think about your audience and the kind of content that resonates with them and get more tactical with campaign planning. For example, deciding on messaging, CTAs, destination URLs and so on.

    Same question here!
I think every Squarespace site has this problem: the homepage URL is redirected to the domain URL
    www.example.com/homepage -> www.example.com
It works well, but the homepage URL still stay in the sitemap. It seems that GSC manage it well (and redirect the page), but is there a way to fix this error? Has this an impact on SEO?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Hannah,
If I were in your position and my website was selling well and stopped rather abruptly, the first thing I would look at is my analytics. If you haven't made any major adjustments to your website, I'd want to take a look to see if traffic has dropped off significantly and if so, from what channels (social, paid, organic), and to what pages or products.  From there, you should have a better idea of how to address the problem.
If, however, traffic has remained consistent and your conversions (sales) have fallen dramatically, consider the usability of your site, and if you have made any changes recently to your overall navigation.
Hope that helps and best of luck wth everything 🙂

    @Jo_SQSP Interesting thread!
You have seconds before a visitor to your website bounces right out of there.
A strong CTA in the Banner or Hero Image is crucial. It's prime billboard real-estate - why let it go to waste?
A call to action is an opportunity to tell the visitor what benefit they’re about to receive. Or, at least, what action they’re taking. A good CTA is specific and benefit-driven. A bad call to action says nothing. For example, a button that just says “submit.”
The more descriptive the CTA, the higher the conversion rate. “Submit” says nothing.
CTA click-bait tips: what to do instead / Click :
Highlight the benefit to the visitor in the CTA. Use first person voice and descriptive action words. Does Your Button Pass the WYLTIWLT Test? Me vs. You: First person or second person? Use Colour That Contrasts with Other Elements Design a Button Big Enough to Touch Lower the commitment (shop now vs. buy now) Made from code, not a graphic.

I have a couple of CTAs  on my landing page which direct to pages on the main site. There are a number of CTAs included in the main site. One is an rss feed registration button to follow.it, one is for leaving a form message, one takes you back to the main story (blog) page from the footer of any blog post.  There are some read more links to offsite urls, and links at the bottom of posts that are in parts from one part to the next one. I try to make it easy to navigate around my two blog pages, one of which is all summary items of the other blog page posts.

Call to Action (or CTA) is a buzzword in the Marketing and Web Content fields these days. But, what actually is a CTA? Simply put, you’re inviting your visitors to take a desired action. It can range from two words (“Buy Now”) to two sentences, and its end goal could be anything - getting email subscribers, trial sign-ups, conversions, etc.
A well crafted CTA can determine not only whether people take the desired action, but also how many. For an effective CTA, you need to consider both the design and the placement. For the design you can consider questions like how long should it be? How do I want to format it so it pops? When it comes to placement options, you can choose to put it at the top of your website for maximum visibility. Or you might find that placing it after some contextual info makes it that much more impactful.
Do these decisions sound familiar to you? Tell us all about your learnings, tips and best practices on how to design powerful CTAs for a website and where to place them in the comments below!
