melamint reacted to Sahil007 in Adjust SEO for individual shop categories
I was wondering if it's at all possible to adjust the SEO for individual categories within a shop. Since it's all different URLs I was hoping to have control over the SEO for every category. Instead, I could only find the SEO options for the store as a whole. If anybody could tell me whether this is possible or not I'd greatly appreciate it.

I actually really liked the webinar.
    However just wanted to add.

A solid Squarespace SEO campaign boils down to the following three aspects: On page, Off page and Technical SEO.

Let's break these down in real simple terms.

    i) On Page SEO
Make sure your pages are written in a way that target the right keyword and have plenty of content to support it.
How did I rank at the top of page 1 for "Squarespace SEO Consultant?"
Check out the page here (or search for it if you like 😀)
    Notice 4 things:
    i) The keyword is in my URL handle.
ii) The keyword is in my H1 tag.
iii) The keyword is used throughout the content.
iv) The content there is to support the main keyword.
That generally sums up the main aim of On Page - I've chosen the keyword I am aiming to rank - as clients and partners can find me with that the keyword (if you want an SEO consultant who specialises in Squarespace don't hesitate to reach out).
    ii) Technical SEO
The great thing about Squarespace, is that it actually takes care of a lot of this for you already.
Sure, you need change your settings to enforce HTTPS and you need to set up Google Search Console but apart from that you're pretty much set.
    iii) Off Page SEO
    You need to get links.
See here I managed to get featured in the following:
    - Fiverr quoted me:
    https://www.fiverr.com/resources/guides/programming-tech/blogging-platforms
    - My university featured me:

    https://www.york.ac.uk/enterprise-works/entrepreneurial-journeys/harry-boxhall/ (
    - Contributed to a post:

    https://hashtagpaid.com/banknotes/the-role-of-creator-marketing-and-influencers-in-the-b2b-world
All these types of links help support your website authority to allow you to rank for keywords. See my traffic growth below over the last few months after I put effort into my Squarespace site (harryboxhall.co.uk).
So if you ever find yourself wondering "Is Squarespace good for SEO?".
The answer is absolutely, but that doesn't mean you can't have an SEO strategy in place.
    Hopefully that's where I help.

    Hallo Mela
Can you point me towards one of your products that is within nested categories?

    I found this script
    https://www.nichemarket.co.za/blog/nichemarket-advice/breadcrumb-schema-squarespace
but it' a lot of work because you'll have to do it for every single page and readjust the script for every single site and item. I didn't follow through so I don't know if it will do it's job … this looks painfull to do if you have more than 5 items listed. But it's said this will also work for events and blog.

I'm having the same issue and from what I can tell, it's either a SS bug or a feature they do not offer. If anyone has a work around, please advise. Thanks.

Hello - I'm using the Ventura template for an e-commerce platform. My site is not live yet.
I have an issue with the product page not displaying a detailed breadcrumbs trail. It only displays the main category (Shop) and the name of the product, without showing the product's category and sub-category in-between. Does anyone know of a custom code that can be injected to show the category and sub-category in the breadcrumbs trail?

I would say there is a bug in SS. I was just editing an item on my test v7.1 site and I have set up some categories.

I had the blouses category assigned to a product item and it showed up like...

...at the top of the product page. After editing the item. The breadcrumbs were changed to...

Basically they have removed the breadcrumbs path on the product page.
I suggest reporting this bug to SS.

@creedon Yes! Those are turned on. On my site, you'll be able to see that breadcrumbs are there--it's just that Squarespace doesn't seem to have an option to include categories in the breadcrumb string.
Wondering how one would add it with code.

First let's check. Have you turned on Category Title and Breadcrumbs?

On the product page, category and subcategory are missing from the breadcrumbs. This is extremely frustrating, as this isn't a true breadcrumb if all it does is bring you back to the main page. Is there any workaround to show the full path with category (and subcategories if applicable) in the breadcrumb on the product detail page?
    It now only shows:
Shop Home > Product Item But it needs to show:
Shop Home > Category > (Subcategory if applicable) > Product Item Any help? Thanks in advance!
