After few years full of adventures we were extremely happy we found Squarespace!
We did the site easily, uploaded many of our products etc until.... DUH!!!!
We can't upload many of our products as they are more than 300mb.
    Shocked.
Spent a happy month building a website that runs smooth and looks wonderful only to discover that the very same platform is sending us to Shopify... We will go. Sad for the wasted time and for leaving your nice platform just for a silly reason.

Unfortunately, I've read so many times here that SS doesn't really read the forums. If you want a feature or something, you will have to log a ticket with their customer care support. Frankly, I'm surprised SS ignores so much of what's going on in this forum because it's a HOTBED of insights as to what their customers want and need, and how they can make their platform, especially the Commerce plan, so much better. They market themselves as giving you the tools to create beautiful websites easily -- and I agree with that...my site/store is so much better than any of my previous stores BUT if you look under the hood, it falls short compared with competitors like Shopify. So many things on the backend that could be fixed/improved/added that would make Squarespace a truly great e-commerce platform, but unfortunately, from what I've observed, they seem to be in their own world.

Adding Squarespace's search function to my store was a huge mistake and I got more complaints about it than anything else -- my customers couldn't find what they're looking for and I'm pretty sure I've lost sales because of it. Finally got down and installed Google's programmable search and voila -- my customers are getting search results when they search my store. I'm not holding any hope that this Squarespace search issue will ever get fixed.

there's really nothing "advanced" in SQSP's "advanced shipping". you can't even set a shipping rate per product. Shopify and Ecwid are a much better option for advanced shipping.

No luck with Squarespace getting the issue fixed... I have decided that I am moving my site to another platform; more than likely Shopify. Squarespace claim the user can't use an in-app browser like IG, TIK TOK, etc to use Afterpay. I found a Shopify boutique via IG and I clicked on the boutique picture it took me to the website via IG and I was able to check out using Afterpay with no issues. I received my email confirmations from Afterpay as well as the boutique I ordered from with my details... I truly believe it is a SQUARESPACE GLITCH that is causing the failed payments. I am over it!!!

Wish I had known there is no way of integrating squarespace with a till system in the UK. Cant even find a third party. Also discovered it's impossible to create a shipping option in the UK that excludes certain postcodes. The site is built now so can't switch but if I was to choose again or make recommendations to someone else, it would not be squarespace.

I wish I would have known that the "updates" can come without anytime without any warning.
I wish I would have known how difficult it would be to facilitate subscriptions for my customers (and mine are VERY simple, so this platform has FAILED in that department).
I wish I would have known that Squarespace seems to take ZERO accountability for the areas that they fail both their customers and mine.. what does it matter if something "looks cool" if it can't make sales functional.
Beware this platform, and spend more money on a better one or build your own.

I wish I'd known that Squarespace would put me out of business by removing core functionality from the 7.1 commerce platform without any warning. Like almost all artists, my work exists in the form of portfolios, with each piece living within a larger body of work. I relied on Pagination in the Product Detail pages of the 7.1 commerce engine for the "previous" and "next" links that allowed viewers to move between individual works in my portfolios. Squarespace removed Pagination on Product Detail pages from the 7.1 platform without any warning, despite that it had been a core part of the commerce engine carried straight through from the 7.0 platform. Every competing platform offers Pagination on Product Detail pages, including Squarespace 7.0 even. Without it, I was instantly put out of business, as each piece became a dead end road. After six months of trying every possible way to solve the problem, I finally had to shut down my 7.1 site. This is a huge blow to me personally, but it's hard to see how it benefits Squarespace when every artist, craftsperson, or businessperson wants to make it as easy as possible for buyers to see and navigate through all the products they have on offer. Even more troubling is the fact that Squarespace has now shown that they can and will remove core functionality that your business depends on at any time and without any warning. I paid Squarespace to help put me in business, and instead I got put out of business. I've been a huge fan and longtime user of Squarespace, but I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.

if it's a prize code, i limit the number of uses to 1. i also include the name of the winner/recipient in the discount code so it would be pretty obvious if someone else used it. i've only had it happen once when someone passed their prize code to someone else (despite my specifying in my store and blog that prize codes cannot be passed to another person). i simply voided their order and didn't re-issue the code.

this feature appeared on my account a couple of weeks ago and although i use USPS to ship orders, stamps.com rates are still way cheaper than the rates from inside SQSP.
what would have been a useful feature (at least for me) is if they included a memo feature for when refunding customers (e.g., for shipping excess, etc.), as well as a way to add to an existing order when customers want to add more to their order, and better yet...a manual order creation feature for customers who pay off-site. SQSP doesn't take a cut/commission on sales made on Advanced Commerce accounts so i don't understand why the last two features don't exist when it does on other platforms.

@bedeclarke - I agree that the current system is a deal breaker for anyone who has a lot of products. I honestly feel duped when I signed up back in May (and they had a 200 product limit per shop page) because I am now discovering a TON of basic/essential e-commerce features that are missing on the supposedly premium Advanced Commerce plan Squarespace offers. Its Advanced Commerce plan is basically CRIPPLED. And honestly, I think it's just plain ridiculous to shell out $300-$800 for a Squarespace expert to code something that should already come with the Advanced Commerce plan -- whether it's a new version or not! -- and then have me take all the risk of that custom code breaking down the line when Squarespace decides to do another major upgrade.
I would have gone with Shopify if I had enough time to evaluate and discover features, but I was coming from another e-commerce platform, AuctivaCommerce, whose owners/developers have apparently abandoned and stopped developing -- a shame because I was with them since 2014 and they had the very best features IMO (they just didn't seem interested in developing it further or continuing with it and my store has outgrown it) -- and I needed to move as soon as possible. Right now, I'm stuck with Squarespace and have managed to get my store to work how I need it to work. But it's looking that I will have to move my store to Shopify later on.

if you say you have done it in the past, then wouldn't it make sense that you try to replicate it based on your experience? Paypal and Stripe are the only payment processors that can be integrated with Squarespace - it's built in the Commerce plan. it's also in the documentation -- please read the help files. you can also verify this with Squarespace customer support -- open a chat with them regarding this.

SQSP folk don't really read every post in this forum nor do they respond to feature requests here. you will need to contact customer support and log a ticket regarding a feature you want added. and then pray (if you're the praying sort) because there is no guarantee the feature you want will ever see the light of day. they tend to do what they want rather than actually listen to their customers. if they did, issues/problems/limitations with taxes, order creation, shipping, manual gift card creation, manual order creation, coupons/discounts, etc. would have already been fixed or addressed. honestly, on the backend side, they are severely behind the competition with all the ridiculous limitations and lack of features that you would actually find in other e-commerce platforms today.

it sure would be nice if a shipping option is un-selected by default, right? this would force customers to really pay attention to shipping, especially if there are several options. it's ironic that the commerce part of Squarespace has so many limitations that those limitations can significantly affect the success of one's Squarespace store.

not going to do much by asking Squarespace here on the forums for a feature that is crucial/essential to running a business. you need to log in a ticket and make the request there so they see it. they have mentioned before they do not really monitor the forums for feature requests.

@paul2009 - I don't expect perfection. I have been doing business online since 2000 and have plenty of experience using a variety of e-commerce platforms. So I have a pretty good idea of what features are essential and should come built-in at a price point and what features are acceptable as extensions (and therefore I can expect to pay). If I had come across your list of missing e-commerce features on Squarespace back in May, I would have gone with Shopify instead.
But back in May, the 2 glaring features (for me) that were missing with the Advanced Commerce were: the ability to create orders manually and the ability to manually create gift cards. In fact, while I was on the trial period, I went back and forth with customer care about these 2 missing features and asked why they weren't just there.
Then there is the missing wishlist feature -- I found out that if I wanted to have a wishlist, then I can't have a shopping cart. It has to be one or the other. Shopify and my old e-commerce platform (heck, most other platforms out there) have a built-in wishlist to help make customers' shopping easier. (Plus being in the industry/market that I'm in, I used to run promotions wherein my customers would submit their wishlist links and they get to win products from their wishlist.)
Then there's the crippled subscription feature. Why would there not be a way for me to manage subscriptions and see all the subscriptions I currently have? (As a workaround, I have decided to go with MoonClerk because at least I'll be able to manage subscriptions and even let my subscribers manage theirs.)
Then there's the fact you can't edit orders. In my previous e-commerce platform, I was able to remove/add products on an order and add extra payments made by the customer (if it warrants it). If a customer couldn't check out easily online, I would give them another way to pay (check, money order) and then I would manually create an order for them with payment pending -- that when I receive their payment and it clears, I can go in and change the status of their order from payment pending to pending shipping.
Also, you can't message customers from within the Squarespace admin, something I was able to do in my old platform. If I needed to refund a customer, I would go in her order, refund the amount, and then include a message for her. If she has an account, she would login, find her order number, and then respond from there. In Squarespace, there's no way for me to do that. If I needed to refund a customer, I'd go ahead and do it and then go to my email client, find her order #, copy her email address and start a new email to let her know what the refund is for. (I had recently made a request to customer care if they can add a memo field -- even for just 25 or 30 characters -- in the refund box so the customer knows what the refund is for.)
I can list some more but I'll stop here.
At my old platform, the cost for all the above features (and more -- I can go on) is only like $3 more than what the Advanced Commerce costs. But again, the folks over there have stopped developing and/or have lost interest in making further improvements and while everything is still working over there and they still have many existing users, I feel it is only a matter of time until they stop offering the service and tell store owners to find another platform to sell. I had a long talk with their customer service too and she was upfront with me -- and that's actually what prompted me to start moving to a new platform. I was testing 3 at the same time: 3dcart, Shopify, and Squarespace.
