@robertwyatt - I have a couple of posts about this because it's an IMPORTANT feature to have on an e-commerce store, especially when they just rolled out the new product pages that can hold 10,000 products! I wasted half an hour the other day trying to drag products on a product page that had 150+ products and it was ridiculous! It's unbelievable that this essential feature is missing. I have already asked for this feature to be added but the SQSP support person said no promises that this would be added. I asked in my other post if there is a script that can be injected that would automatically sort products. Hopefully a SQSP expert will respond.

You're going to have to create a ticket to customer care about this. They don't read and/or count requests posted here on the forums.

yeah, you will often see people here (including me sometimes) say to create a ticket with customer care about the features you want added -- because that's what SQSP says is the "official" way to make requests. however, they will tell you they don't guarantee your requests will be implemented. to be honest, i think it's all lip service because i've yet to see them really listen to their customers, especially to their existing/paying ones. you'll find many requests dating back YEARS and they've been ignored. i've never come across a more unresponsive company than Squarespace.

@paul2009 - I don't expect perfection. I have been doing business online since 2000 and have plenty of experience using a variety of e-commerce platforms. So I have a pretty good idea of what features are essential and should come built-in at a price point and what features are acceptable as extensions (and therefore I can expect to pay). If I had come across your list of missing e-commerce features on Squarespace back in May, I would have gone with Shopify instead.
But back in May, the 2 glaring features (for me) that were missing with the Advanced Commerce were: the ability to create orders manually and the ability to manually create gift cards. In fact, while I was on the trial period, I went back and forth with customer care about these 2 missing features and asked why they weren't just there.
Then there is the missing wishlist feature -- I found out that if I wanted to have a wishlist, then I can't have a shopping cart. It has to be one or the other. Shopify and my old e-commerce platform (heck, most other platforms out there) have a built-in wishlist to help make customers' shopping easier. (Plus being in the industry/market that I'm in, I used to run promotions wherein my customers would submit their wishlist links and they get to win products from their wishlist.)
Then there's the crippled subscription feature. Why would there not be a way for me to manage subscriptions and see all the subscriptions I currently have? (As a workaround, I have decided to go with MoonClerk because at least I'll be able to manage subscriptions and even let my subscribers manage theirs.)
Then there's the fact you can't edit orders. In my previous e-commerce platform, I was able to remove/add products on an order and add extra payments made by the customer (if it warrants it). If a customer couldn't check out easily online, I would give them another way to pay (check, money order) and then I would manually create an order for them with payment pending -- that when I receive their payment and it clears, I can go in and change the status of their order from payment pending to pending shipping.
Also, you can't message customers from within the Squarespace admin, something I was able to do in my old platform. If I needed to refund a customer, I would go in her order, refund the amount, and then include a message for her. If she has an account, she would login, find her order number, and then respond from there. In Squarespace, there's no way for me to do that. If I needed to refund a customer, I'd go ahead and do it and then go to my email client, find her order #, copy her email address and start a new email to let her know what the refund is for. (I had recently made a request to customer care if they can add a memo field -- even for just 25 or 30 characters -- in the refund box so the customer knows what the refund is for.)
I can list some more but I'll stop here.
At my old platform, the cost for all the above features (and more -- I can go on) is only like $3 more than what the Advanced Commerce costs. But again, the folks over there have stopped developing and/or have lost interest in making further improvements and while everything is still working over there and they still have many existing users, I feel it is only a matter of time until they stop offering the service and tell store owners to find another platform to sell. I had a long talk with their customer service too and she was upfront with me -- and that's actually what prompted me to start moving to a new platform. I was testing 3 at the same time: 3dcart, Shopify, and Squarespace.

@bedeclarke - I agree that the current system is a deal breaker for anyone who has a lot of products. I honestly feel duped when I signed up back in May (and they had a 200 product limit per shop page) because I am now discovering a TON of basic/essential e-commerce features that are missing on the supposedly premium Advanced Commerce plan Squarespace offers. Its Advanced Commerce plan is basically CRIPPLED. And honestly, I think it's just plain ridiculous to shell out $300-$800 for a Squarespace expert to code something that should already come with the Advanced Commerce plan -- whether it's a new version or not! -- and then have me take all the risk of that custom code breaking down the line when Squarespace decides to do another major upgrade.
I would have gone with Shopify if I had enough time to evaluate and discover features, but I was coming from another e-commerce platform, AuctivaCommerce, whose owners/developers have apparently abandoned and stopped developing -- a shame because I was with them since 2014 and they had the very best features IMO (they just didn't seem interested in developing it further or continuing with it and my store has outgrown it) -- and I needed to move as soon as possible. Right now, I'm stuck with Squarespace and have managed to get my store to work how I need it to work. But it's looking that I will have to move my store to Shopify later on.

Yes, you will have to drag and drop each product if you want them to appear alphabetically...that or buy an expensive plugin. Honestly, it's ridiculous for Squarespace to not have this sorting functionality when each shop page can now hold up to 10,000 products. I mean what half-twit coder leaves out an important function like that?!?!?!?!

this is a gross limitation of Squarespace. you can't even mark an order as partially fulfilled, something you're able to do in other e-commerce platforms. i really wish Squarespace will get their act together and make their Commerce plans more up to par with other e-commerce platforms. i read the other day they just raised $600 million -- wish they'd put even a small fraction of that into fixing a lot of what's lacking in the Commerce plans: manual order creation, partial fulfillment, ability to delete customer accounts ourselves, manual gift card creation, better discounting, pick-up/cash on delivery option, bundling, item-specific tax, fixing the subscription feature, and a host of other essential features that so many have been asking for here on the forums but have gone largely ignored for years despite logging feature requests.

if it's buy 1 get one half off on 2nd of the same print, you could do a variant -- variant one would be price of 1 print (e.g., $50), and second variant would be for 2 prints with the discount reflected - e.g., $75.
if the promotion applies to any print you are selling (provided the price is the same for all your prints), you can create a new product, add the 2 variants, and then put a form in for your customers to specify which prints they want.

Unless Squarespace gets its act together with regards to its subscription features, it's best to move to a new subscription platform. MoonClerk, for one, will let customers update their addresses and such, as well as let you change subscription frequencies, pause subscriptions, etc. I have been using them since November 2020 for my subscription products after reading up on the limitations of using Squarespace's subscriptions features and anticipating doing so would only give me headaches.

i'm blown away by how slow Squarespace appears to be (or how they don't really seem to care) in adapting to the current e-commerce climate brought about by the pandemic. so many features being requested by Squarespace customers Squarespace is failing to address that it looks like they are losing business. so much potential here for Squarespace to be at the forefront and become a serious competitor.  every day i see here in the forum requests from users for features that should have been present from the start (or should have already been implemented because they've been requested for years!) and i'm disheartened. i've only had my Squarespace store since May and there are some features i wish are already there, but so far i have made it work with what is there. i would hate to move again but if things become unmanageable, i may have to eventually move to Shopify.

This was one of the things I asked SS back in May. According to them, you will have to buy the gift card from yourself because you can't simply generate a gift card for giveaways (buying from yourself doesn't really make sense). I do a lot of promotions and giveaways so instead of giving away gift cards, I give away discount codes (which I call gift codes or prize codes) in dollar amounts (e.g., $10, $20, etc.) that my winners can apply on any order. I sell both digital and physical products so if they buy physical products, they just pay shipping. Been working fine, but it would be nice to be able to give away gift cards without buying them myself -- other e-commerce platforms have this capability so I wonder why SS doesn't have this one.

I wish I'd known Squarespace was going to scrap its concise 7.0 product interface, where everything in a tab was accessible at a glance on a single browser page, and replace it with a clumsy interface that is mostly empty space and requires a huge amount of scrolling to see all the attributes of a product.

I run a business that sells and delivers locally, I switched to Shopify and this is my honest feedback on why I switched.

Please note this is NOT a diss to Squarespace (SS). Please note I am a cake maker and sell and deliver locally. This feedback will prob be useful to other business owners that sell locally too.
I joined Squarespace in June 2021 and paid for the top plan. I will try be direct and constructive as I can without adding fluff.

First Impressions On Who To Pick
    Squarespace
Easy to use navigation, easy to read FAQ, alot of design options. This is why I went with SS to start my local business ventures.
    Shopify
Quite intimidating with all the options, editing a homepage was confusing at first, editing CSS was annoying, I was overwhelmed with all the options and the user interface wasn't as nice as SS.
    Comment
As a person starting their first online store, SS was the best choice for me as I wanted to test my online store and see how it would turn out.

    Page Speeds
    SquareSpace
People have warned me SS servers are slow and clunky, even though I tried SS best practice on how to minimise a page's size, it was still slow to my liking
    Shopify
Appears way faster and has apps to even further push your pages faster by pre-loading pages when a customer hovers over a link
    COD (Cash on delivery)
    Squarespace
Does not offer COD, I assume they don't offer this because there are no fees and SS can't financially support this feature.
    Shopify
Does which can be helpful as I got a few orders which I would not with SS.
    Apps
    Squarespace
Lacks apps but SS does try build the apps in their platform so users don't need apps. But still lacking.
    Shopify
The amount of Apps Shopify has is abundant and you can pretty much find anything you want for your site and for your budget. I have multiple free apps. The downfall of this, if the company or the creators of the app shut down, you are forced to find an alternative. Too many apps can slow down your site and if the apps server is down, your site can not load. For example: I had a postcode checker app and their server crashed, my website didn't load for a good 30 seconds or more...... I decided to get rid of that app and find an alternative. Apps can get costly over time if you do need paid multiple apps. But if you do your research, you can try get free apps suited to your needs
    Customisation (CSS, JAVA, HTML)
    Squarespace
Has one section of CSS which is useful and you can see your change in real time when you enter your CSS.
    Shopify
Can be quite difficult to navigate and locate as different themes have different names for their CSS, themes, HTML and JSS. You also have to write your code, save then in another window, wait a few seconds then refresh to see if it actually works. This is quite annoying. Also you have to duplicate your theme and make sure you don't break your site (which is fine, but fiddly)

    New Pages
    Squarespace
Squarespace is very easy to add new pages and edit. Very easy and pleasing experience.
    Shopify
Has the worst process in making new pages (such as a FAQ page or a contact us page), I had to install an app to make new pages and I am afraid if that app shutsdown, I will have to start from scratch from another app.

    Discounts
    Squarespace
Customers can stack product and delivery discounts! Which is amazing....
    Shopify
Can NOT have customers stack discounts. It's only 1 discount at a time. Additionally, only 1 automatic discount can be running which is annoying. I cannot have a free delivery automatic discount, paired with buy 2 get one at 50% off discount...... you will need to install an app and from research, all stackable discount apps you have to pay......

    Design
    Squarespace
One of the best design platforms I have used, its easy and has alot of features to really make a dynamic, creative website
    Shopify
Technically bound to the theme you have chosen. There are free themes, but they are really basic in terms of design. You have to pay alot of money for a unique theme and even then, it limits you. You either have to install an app or get a designer to help you which cost even more money.
    Local Delivery
    Squarespace
Does not have a local delivery options to certain zip/postcodes and can not offer different rates based on distance.
    Shopify
Has inbuilt local delivery where you can set rates to different areas, furthermore there are plenty of apps that enhances this feature even more!
    Price
    Squarespace
I paid $624AUD for the top, advance commerce yearly plan with no additional adds such as the e-marketing addon
    Shopify
I paid $470AUD for the basic yearly plan + $318AUD for adds I need, totally to $788AUD per year. Different $164AUD more than SS.

Quite small which is expected and its a shame the admins or staff do NOT monitor the forums which addresses alot of SS issues. Some forum posts can't be answered because there's only a small number of people that know the answer.

The community is large and when I post of the forums, I get an answer within hours with a fix, though I had more difficult questions some people can't answer but I look elsewhere such as reddit or google.

I think SS is a good platform for people to show off their portfolios, digital products, services and products very minimal variants such as maybe electronics, non-custom jewellery, soaps, lotions etc......

As I bake cakes, I need customers to have full control of customisation and SS really lacks a user friendly interface for this. I had alot of workarounds and agreements a customer should tick. With Shopify, they dont need to tick an agreement because the interface was straight forward.

SS to me is like a gated community where SS tries to control the user (you, the business owner) in their way of thinking, doing and seeing. You can confined by SS rules and design and there's no room to think outside the box.
    Shopify
Vastly caters to e-commerce business owners, alot of apps, customisation and help when needed. It's quite open source where a user can see help and implement their ideas.

Businesses that sell locally and businesses that has products that can be fully customisable as there are apps to further expand on your products should use Shopify not SS as it offers COD and local delivery options.

If you guys like to see the difference between my SS and Shopify stores, here it is, I linked a cake product and you can go through the buying process on both and you can be the judge on which has the better buying process for a customer:

Enter Postcode 2000 which is part of the buying process

Hopefully a SQSP expert will respond.

i'm wondering -- did Squarespace not beta test the Members Area before they released it in the wild? it's obviously lacking a number of basic features one would expect from a membership area.

this is a gross limitation of Squarespace. you can't even mark an order as partially fulfilled, something you're able to do in other e-commerce platforms. i really wish Squarespace will get their act together and make their Commerce plans more up to par with other e-commerce platforms. i read the other day they just raised $600 million -- wish they'd put even a small fraction of that into fixing a lot of what's lacking in the Commerce plans: manual order creation, partial fulfillment, ability to delete customer accounts ourselves, manual gift card creation, better discounting, pick-up/cash on delivery option, bundling, item-specific tax, fixing the subscription feature, and a host of other essential features that so many have been asking for here on the forums but have gone largely ignored for years despite logging feature requests.
