    Hi all,
Just read all the comments on this thread and was wondering if, as of today, any of you has a workaround this or knows about an easy solution to implement on Squarespace to create a working search site bar?
Third-party apps seem to be very expensive (prices going up with number of pages indexed) and cheap solutions like Google Programmable Search Engine have ads on them.  I don't know what to do anymore to get a functional search bar on my site!
If anyone has a solution, please let me know 🙂 Thanks!

As of May 18 and a couple years after discovering the search bug, Squarespace still hasn't fixed this.
Try it our for yourself, go to the search bar on your squarespace site and search for a common topic that you know your site covers, it'll come up blank.
So basically, visitors coming to your site can't search for anything or will think your site doesn't cover an important topic, when it does.

You may as well give up. I have been trying for the past YEAR to get support to fix the very basic search function on my blog page. Each time I get the same stack message - "we are actively working on it" and each time absolutely nothing is done. I find this really insulting to the intelligence.
    NOT acceptable Squarespace.....
I guess the fix is Wix......

For several months now our search bar has not been working properly. We have a title called, "Best Practices For Avoiding & Combating Viruses" but if you search the full title these ways, it says it can't find anything:  "best practices for avoiding & combating viruses" "best practices for avoiding and combating viruses" "viruses" "Best Practices For Avoiding and Combating Viruses"
However, if you write it exactly how the blog is written with the same punctuation (caps and & symbols), it will show up "Best Practices For Avoiding & Combating Viruses" or "Viruses"
This happens with all of our blogs.
I've reached out to Squarespace numerous times over the last few months about the issue. They've re-indexed the site several times and below is their most recent response.
Is anyone else dealing with this? Any ideas on what is going on?

"After taking some additional time to investigate, I can confirm the issue you're seeing with the built-in search bar is due to an issue on our end. In this case, the issue is preventing partial phrases or keywords from returning results. In order to view a specific post in search results, the exact title needs to be entered.

I can also see you previously reported this issue in February, 2020 on a separate email request and can confirm we have noted your sites instance of this issue for our Design and Engineering teams to review. They’ll use this feedback when implementing fixes and improvements in future releases."
"This bug's impact will vary depending on a number of factors like the type of site, the volume of content, how visitors navigate the site, and the ways the content is promoted or organized.  For example, a lot of sites may never experience this behavior because of their site's structure/content or how often their visitors dig up older posts.

For your site in particular, it looks like all of your posts are on a single Blog Page with posts dating back to 2014. If your visitors are frequently searching for older posts, you may want to consider creating multiple Blog Pages so you have an additional layer of organization - Blog Page, Category, Tag. Also, since the Blog Page and Summary Blocks display posts in chronological order, you may want to create a tag/category specifically for these popular posts.

You may also want to consider hiding the Search Block from your Navigation due to its inconsistent results.  You can do this from Design > Site Styles > Header:Layout > Search Position > Hide. This will encourage visitors to explore the other links and pages you've set up for finding this content."

Had the same issue. You can save Squarespace forms to Mailchimp but not Squarespace itself, which makes no sense. There doesn't seem to be a way to, for example, add a checkbox to a form that is the user's consent to join a Squarespace mailing list.
You can redirect the user after submitting the form to a newsletter sign up page, but abandonment makes that effectively useless. You could also save the form responses to a Google doc and periodically import the email addresses, but that's an enormous pain, especially if you want any automated messaging to go out on a timely basis.
Nor is the API helpful. You only have the option to GET, and then only if you are using profiles. You can't POST anything other than order and product updates. Otherwise we could add subscribers on form submission very easily with a Zap.
(TBH we're not the biggest fans of Squarespace's email marketing tool, but to be fair, it is nice for very simple use cases.)

Is there a way to add users' emails from a form to an email campaign mailing list? It seems to just go to email storage, not the mailing list.

So I have been having a very similar issue (maybe the same issue).   I've struggled getting indexed.   DIYer here.

I finally realized in google search console last week that several of my blog articles and my Categories & Tags are not indexed.   Found the error on the blog about not being in the property.   So I added to the property the path to the blog itself.    Today I see some indexed but not all.

In my stress, I have been trying to get info from SEO groups -- and one kind soul suggested SEMRush and actually ran a report for me.  I see lots of errors -- javascript and css to which I have no clue how to fix (or even if I added them).   Temporary redirect, which I don' know how I did those either.

    I see a lot of 503 errors that I don't understand.

That report seems to ding me for no meta descriptions on Tags and Categories -- which I'm told I cannot do in SQP.

I have been working on low hanging fruit this morning like broken links, missing descriptions, etc -- work in progress.   But I feel like there are some big errors I need to fix.  I just don't know how.

Hey everyone, I'm trying to figure out why Google Search Console won't index my website. I verified my website and submitted my sitemap. It's discovered every URL on my website but it's not indexing them. It says: Validation started Started: 12/19/22 but nothing has changed since it supposedly started. It just lists all my URLs with "last crawled: N/A" next to it. I checked that none of my pages are blocked from being indexed but there's no problems there. I even checked the crawl stats but apparently there are no problems.
I had right click disabled throughout my website, which I removed because I thought that may have been the problem. Nothing changed. I'm wondering if my page anchors are causing issues. I have a Contents Section on each of my tutorials with page anchors leading to each title to make it easier to navigate. Google doesn't frown on this do they?
I'm concerned it's a content issue but I have no idea what would need fixing with that. My website is www.TheClayTalk.com if you want to have a look. I honestly have no idea where to go to from here. I've been searching on Google for an answer for the past week but nothing has gotten me closer to a solution.  I would greatly appreciate any thoughts that might help point me in the right direction.

While stumbling around trying to find out why I am not getting many visits to my site as a result of web searches, I discovered that roughly one half (108-215) of the pages have not been indexed, per Google Search Console.  I'm not sure what the reason(s) may be, it appears that it's not because of errors, but some other reasons.  I would appreciate it if someone could perhaps give me an idea of what the issue(s) could be, I thought each page was created basically the same using the template provided by Squarespace.  Thanks!

    Hi there,
I've done some SEO work for other websites, however never with a Squarespace site. I seem to be running into an issue with crawling and indexing and wanted to see if I'm missing something, or if this is a normal issue for Squarespace sites (I generally work with Wordpress).
I've created about a dozen pages, and have submitted them to Search Console to be indexed, however they continue to be labelled as 'discovered' in the submitted sitemaps section, but when checking the coverage map it shows just 1 page (the homepage) as valid, and none as 'errors' or 'excluded'. Even the homepage that is labelled as valid notes that it is indexed but not submitted in the sitemap.
I've tried manually requesting for indexes on each url, submitting another sitemap, and doing the laundry list worth of site improvements to make it rank, but I'm wondering if I'm simply missing a Squarespace setting or something. For comparison, I created a Wordpress site about a month before and it was crawled and indexed within a week.
    Any help is appreciated!

Quick view on search is not displaying results every time, I might even say "usually." What is working on my sites is turning off "quick view" (so that the user has to hit the return bar. Then I'm seeing results every time.
